  • Tar on paint

Have a white 2007 Ford Escape. Have tar on sides and want to remove it and wax the car for the first time. Would like to try buffing it all new to buffing. If that is not the recommended procedure let me know. The paint is not dull.
    Thanks

When you say buffing are you talking about using a DA like the G110? If so, then go for it! You will get results SO much better than by hand. As far as the tar you have a couple options. 1. Use clay. 2. Use a chemical solvent like Meguiar's Body Solvent in the Detailer Line or Bug and Tar remover in the Gold Class line (should be easy to find locally).

If it where me I would go down to Target or Wal-Mart and get the Gold Class Bug and Tar remover and a Smooth Surface Clay Kit. Here would be my process up to the point of buffing the car.
    1. Wash with Gold Class Shampoo (my favorite) to remove any loose dirt.
    2. Spray the bad tar areas with the Bug and Tar remover. Wipe off the tar when it's ready with a terry cloth towel.
    3. Clay the entire car.
    4. Move on to the polishing steps which is another discussion....
