  • Trim and molding

I never taped my cars so all the molding and trim has wax on it. Whats the best way to deal with that?

If my Expedition already has waxy molding and I am about to do 2-3 steps on it, is there any point in taping it? I have to go back and treat the molding anyway.

    Big pink rubber eraser

Works like a charm, although it does leave a mess (like someone's desk after a test they didn't do too well on)

      Ditto, and Meg's #39.

Tape next time - it is so much faster than removing wax in my opinion.

I like #39. Leaves no mess like a eraser. lol

Seems like you can never get all the residue out of the plastic once it dries...

Scrubbing with a product like M39 using a plastic brush of some type, while also being careful not to scratch the paint is a pretty good recipe for getting your trim as clean as humanly possible, probably not perfect however.

Taping off takes a little time upfront, but on the backside it saves you time because it's faster to tape trim off than it is to spend the rest of your life looking at ugly, stained trim that's difficult to clean.

Just to know, Meguiar's recommends simply slowing down, paying attention and avoid getting product on trim to start with.

Another option is to include the type of trim a car has into the buying decision in the future, avoid cars with hard to maintain trim. Not a very good option as most car manufactures use pebble textured plastic for trim pieces.

          Ugh....

depending on the type of trim, you can actually use peanut butter. I know it sounds crazy, but the oils in the peanuts will dissolve wax. Or atleast when I've tried it. Just put some on your finger and rub it in, let it sit for a minute, then wipe it off, and give it a wash, make sure you get it all back out.

Be better of just buying peanut oil.
