Re: Xterra bumpers - what to do?

ADS sells something called Showroom New Black trim restorer. Looks interesting to me. I was thinking of trying it on some was stained trim that I have.
If its fast, loud, and runs on a flammable liquid...count me in.

Thanks to all for the input. I think the first course of action is to try some dressing. GC Trim might be a good starting point. I have used the Kylon paint for plastic. (On my home's front door around the window) and it's worked awesome. So, that might be the second course of action. Without some idea about maintaining the dye it doesn't seem like the best alternative. I've tried some other brand of "black trim restorer" and it wasn't worth a flip after a rain.

Showroom New is an actual dye, not labeled as a "restorer" which turns out just to be a dressing. It will not wash off after a rain or a wash, and it works!

An inexpensive product you could try would be our Gold Class Trim Detailer

          Gold Class Trim Detailer

I have a '00 Yukon with the same plastic on top of the rear bumper. They are faded and whatnot. I use GC Trim Detailer and apply with a yellow foam applicator and it last a decent amount of time, usually a couple of months then it looks like faded plastic again. I just applied it and used two coats and wipe off excess after working on windows and other misc. stuff and it looks pretty good. I've read that Black Wow works pretty good.

I spent probably a hour prepping the grill and about 10 painting it. Make sure you clean it with everything you have and the most powerful stuff you have. Then I sanded it using 3000 grit and then applied a paintable primer and then applied a adhesion promoter and finally the paint. The car sits outside 24/7 and it looks better than any other piece of plastic on the car.

THAT'S why it has lasted, preparation.

My Neon has the black grille insert (factory) and it's starting to fade and thought of your thread on that and may do the same. Wish I had a compressor and airbrush and paint it factory Orange Blast .

I have sucessfully painted plastic interior pieces of my '73 Olds Cutlass in the past doing proper prep. It lasted until I sold it (bout 2 years) then it got wrecked. I miss that car.
