  • Change from NXT to another product???

I know that has been addressed in several threads, I searched and tried all the tips, but I'm still getting massive streaking on NXT 2.0

I've applied by PC, by hand...I've got three VERY THIN coats on my Boxster, but I still have "oily streaks"

I've never had this problem with any other product. For years I used Gold Class..then I switched to Zaino as my top coat, (I personally loved Z5 and Z2pro...I know there isn't alot of love on this board for the product, but on a well prepped car, it has looked great for me) but when I got the Porsche I thought I would go back to 100% Meguiars. (Mostly due to THIS forum...you guys are the best!!!)

I love #80, #9, #7..but I'm not feeling the love for NXT. I've seen some GREAT looking cars on here using NXT so thats what sold me... I've tried UQD and wiping slowly, tried applying by hand instead of PC...the last coat I let set for over 1.5 hrs before removal (I live in Hot and Humid Southwest Florida...even working in the garage it's hot!)

Any other ideas??? will #21 give me the same problem??
Will #26 look as deep and reflective??

This weekend I am going to detail the car again to get rid of the streaks, so I'm starting from scratch. This will be the steps:

    1)Wash: Gold class wash
    2) clay with QD
    3) #80 with PC and W8006 pad
4)#9 with PC and W9006 pad( I know, probably not needed, just want my paint smooth as glass)
    5) Top coat???????

Last time I used #7 before NXT, I'm leaving it out this time...maybe the oils reacted with the NXT??? ( I LOVED how the Boxster looked after being buffed with #7...super rich..Like you could dive into the car!!)

Top coat products I have in stock: NXT , Zaino Z5 and Z2, Gold Class liquid, Pinnacle Souveran (I have yet to try this product, was given to me as a gift. A friend uses it on his Z06 and it looks incredible...afraid I'll like it too much and at $70.00 a jar, I don't know if I want to get into that habit!)

Willing to purchase any product to get the results I'm after. Looking for maximum depth and reflective abilities. (Aren't we all!!) Since we are on the Meguiars forum I expect to only get Meguiars product recommended, but I'm open to ANY product you have all used with great results.

If you can't tell from my avatar, It's a BLACK Boxster

Re: Change from NXT to another product???

On occasion, I have streaking problems with NXT as well. I have found this is usually due to either a towel with product build-up being used; I often have two towels to remove one product, one clean, one 'dirty'. Basically, I buff most of the product off with a clean towel (most product build up, so 'dirty'), than switch over to the 'clean' towel for a final buff.

However, I wouldn't point the problem at this in your situation, rather the environment you are working in. Hot and humid or cold and humid are never good environments to work in. The problem is that products are meant to dry onto the surface, and having a humid environment means that there is a lot of moisture in the air, making it MUCH harder, if not impossible for products to properly dry. I wouldn't doubt if a dehumidifier in your garage would solve the whole problem, however there is no need to be that obsessed (or is there ).

NXT 2.0 is MUCH better than the previous version about working better in a wider variety of environments, however it still has its extremes. I would honestly look into M26 or perhaps even X-press wax as it is meant made to dry as quick as possible (just a thought). I have even heard that M20 is another miracle-doer when it comes to being easy on/off even in the worst conditions. I personally have also had a lot of luck with ColorX and M66.

    Personally? I would do M26 or M20.

Also saw you were interested in Pinnacle Souveran. I did a review some time ago with 9 different waxes, one of which included Souveran which I believe you should take a quick read:
      The 9 wax showdown!

It is a good wax, though I have found it does not protect the paint very well, and offers no benefit in terms of looks over any of the Meguiar's waxes, even their Cleaner Wax. For me, the only redeeming quality of it is that it really is an easy wax to work with being WOWO with no streaking and being very easy removal/application. The WOWO factory could also be the reason why it doesn't protect well or last long, but that is another story for another day.

The first time I tried #21v2.0 it was streaking in a couple of areas. To rectify this After I clayed the affected areas, I spent about 5 minutes vigorously shaking the product. I have not had any problems since. I really love the look it gives my cars.

Thanks for some good advice. Wolf, Nice write up!!!!...did you have any of the streaking with the nano wax???

I'm going to pick up some #26 just to have around, may try topping off my wife's SLK with #26 over the NXT and see how that looks...may save me a complete exterior detail again this weekend if it works on her car.

I have drawer in my garage filled with clean Microfibers...I probably use a dozen per car. I clean my pads on the fly with both a tooth brush and a soft terry cloth..so build up isn't an issue.

            Ok Brothers...Keep it coming!

Did you give the bottle a good shake before using?

I've used it on both my cars, in high humidity, but didn't have the same issues (with the NXT 2.0). I did have some "sweating issues" with the NXT spray wax though.

M26 is a good wax also, I love using it one black paints, it really pops.

In my personal experience M26 won't protect as much as NXT 2.0 and the beading is not the same.

This past weekend I was experimenting on my car, it's dark blue, I applied a coat of M26 and then top it with NXT 2.0, loved how it looked but that's me just trying things

Re: Change from NXT to another product???

I like using a combination of Terry and Microfiber towels to remove wax of any kind. Usually I'll do my first wipe down with a clean MF and then polish with a nice soft terry. The terry has a little more bite so (for me anyway) it cleans up the residue that a MF may miss........plus it slides so nice over the finished surface afterwards

                      Hmmm....

Maybe try wiping the finish down with UQD and a clean microfiber polishing cloth with this...

Test the Pinnacle side by side with M26 and you'll find a product you'll love that will save you about $60.00

Mike, thanks for the advice. I've read and re-read I think every article you've ever posted!!! I try to follow every one of your pieces of advice, Including final wiping techniques
I'm sure I'm not the only one here who thinks you're "THE MAN" and we deeply appreciate all the time you spend on this forum giving us guys advice. THANKS!!!

I have spent a small fortune on microfibers and terry towels (purchased alot of high end towels that I cut up back in my zaino days) I use mostly meguiars microfibes, but l also a mix of other "highend" micofibers. To quote from a earlier an post in this thread "I have drawer in my garage filled with clean Microfibers...I probably use a dozen per car. I clean my pads on the fly with both a tooth brush and a soft terry cloth..so build up isn't an issue."

I also shake the bottle very well...not 5 minutes, but probably a good 2-3!

Off to advanced auto parts for #26 (What's up with them selling only a portion of the professional line???? I can get #7, #9, #10, #17,#26, #83...no #80 or a few other products...argh!)

Fast drying, great shine, long lasting polymer protection: Meguiar's M20 Polymer Sealant.

Look around at several of the black vehicles Joe at Superior Shine has finished with this product. Simply stunning.

Re: Change from NXT to another product???

                              Morning,

As I am sure you have read in the various posts, streaking can occur for several reasons including using too much product to leaving it on the paint too long!

The biggest thing I have found with NXT is to be sure to apply a very thin even coat. If you are used to using Z2 or Z5 (both outstanding products!), then you should already be leaving an ultra thin coat on the paint. Then perform the swipe test after ~ 15 minutes or so. If the swiping of your finger across the residue leaves smears, allow the product to sit a little longer until subsequent swipes come up streak free; then remove with a quality MF towel.

Leaving NXT on the paint longer than necessary before removal can also cause streaks! Therefore, perform the swipe test and be sure to remove the product when ready.

Or, as Mike S above states, try M20! I have used M20 for over 2 decades (!) and it is by far my most loved and cherished Meguiar's product! It is so easy to use and looks fantastic! It provides incredible gloss!! And if you want the look of NXT or to add warmth to M20's gloss, just top with M26. That combo was my favorite for years and years! I got the best of both worlds: incredible gloss and durability from M20 combined with the richness and warmth from the M26! Try it, you will love it!
