I just wondering if i can 'repair' the orange peel by polishing or if it is necessary to wet sand it??

It is possible to remove orange peel by just compounding but it's not as efficient a method as you lose a lot of control.
Sanding enables you to control the depth of the sanding marks, sanding enables you to see when the peel is removed and the paint is flat, thus you quit sanding and start buffing.
If you try to remove orange peel by just compounding you lose control over the above to factors.
Besides the "how-to" part there's the "should I" part, most wet-sanding is done on fresh paint, not factory paint for a number of reasons.
What are you working on?
