  • NXT over another wax ?

    Hi again,

I have looked here and google, but cannot seem to find an answer........

I would like to try NXT but mt car has been previously done with another brand ( not Fathers ) 3 steps last year, and once this year

    - can I safely apply over this, or do I need more prep work before I try the NXT ?

( I was planning on trying a small area first, and then I found this forum )

Waxing even with a buffer is becoming tooooo much for a "old guy"

thanks for any and all replies, appreciate it.

( apologies if it is on here, and I missed it )

Re: NXT over another wax ? found an answer

I think that I found the answer here:

Car Waxes (Carnauba) - Of the two forms of automotive paint protection, carnauba car wax is preferred by true enthusiasts and collectors for its rich, multi-faceted glow. Its not as easy to apply as a sealant and it doesnt last as long, but all ...

unless anyone else wants to throw a comment.......

If the finish is still smooth to the touch then you can apply this to the paint as it is. Remember, wax is a sacrificial barrier coating that is intended to wear off, thus unless you've kept this car under a soft blanket in a garage since you waxed it last then whatever you've applied has been wearing off so it could be there's less of whatever you applied than you think.

If you really want to do it right then the best way would be to,
      1. Wash
      2. Clay if needed - feel the paint after washing and drying it should feel smooth like glass
      3. Clean - Apply Deep Crystal Paint Cleaner, this will remove any previously applied products
      4. Wax - Apply one to two coats of NXT - Allow to completely dry before removing.

      What are you working on?

          Phatchantz,

Well this is kind of an abstract question and let me tell you why. Sure you can top NXT on whatever you have on the car but the question is, will you be maximizing the potential (for looks and durability).

See, Meg's offers the broadest array of products geared to the beginner all the way up to the top pro detailers.

If I were you, I would start from scratch to ensure you are maximizing your vehicles potential.

          This means:

          1. Wash with a high quality wash (NXT Wash or Gold Class Shampoo).

          2. Clay the entire vehicle. This is an important step for removing bonded contaminents from the paint. It will also give your car that silky smooth feel.

          3. Paint Cleaner. Try Meg's Deep Crystal Paint Cleaner. This step would be important to you for a few reasons. This step (in conjunction with claying the car) will remove any old waxes from your car and prep it for polishing and waxing. The reason why you use a cleaner after claying is after you've removed any bonded contaminents, using a cleaner allows you to get into those spots you couldn't otherwise.

          4. Polish (this is probably the most voluntary step - but I'm a big fan). If you choose to polish, I'd say try #7 "Show Car Glaze" from the Professional line (you can get it at Canadian Tire - I think).

          5. Two Coats of NXT 2.0. If you can, put one coat on, let dry and remove with a MF towel. Let the wax cure for 12 hours and then put on a second coat.

          6. Maintain with UQD, NXT Spray Wax or QD.

My thinking is that if you simply wash your car and top with NXT, you might not be seeing the maximum potential for your vehicle.

Hey Mike... I notice lately you've been leaving out the "polish" step, any reason why?

I was thinking it might be because you are trying to ease noobies into the detailing frame of mind, but I have REALLY become a big fan of #7, so I advise everyone and their mother to give it a shot.

What hooked me on #7 was the wife test. Did her car and selectively took panels and used #7 on some and not on others. She picked the #7 panels EVERY TIME as looking more wet. Just amazing.

I live in NJ, but was in a Cdn Tire in Toronto about 6 weeks ago and was amazed at how many good Meg's products they had. You can try Cdn Tire or even Walmart often has some stuff.

                  Good luck!

                    You are wise Grasshopper...

Meguiar's always states that polishing, (that is applying a pure polish), is an optional step, so when reading a member's questions I try to determine if the car is a daily driver or if the person is trying to get their car ready for a car show and then make recommendations based upon these criteria.

Some members join, post a question, get their answer and never come back and that's okay, for those that stick around they usually read enough to learn about the polishing process to add that step the next time they work on their car or the next car they work on.

We make so many product that a person new to taking care of their car can easily get overwhelmed and you see comments like that on this forum all the time so it's kind of a good idea to easy people into multiple step procedures.

Mike / 3Fitty..... if you see this - I was able to aquire all but the #7 polish.. the choices were limited ( went to 4 stores ) -

I got Step 2 of the "Deep Crystal" system as a replacement - the only other one was "gold" something or other.........
                          ( is this an o.k. combo ? )

                          my weekend is planned now

( living in the northern climate - is "all" of this a yearly event - or could I just check the finish and go to polish and nxt if clay is not needed )

                          thanks again !

DC #2 is great. A bit easier to use than #7 and maybe not quite as wet a look but still great. It was my polish of choice until a few months ago when I made the switch to #7.

                            You'll love it.
