  • Another streaking issue (uneven depth of color)

After reading the last thread about a member having UQD streaking on his car, it reminded me about my similar issues issues, I decided to start from scratch on my hood and trunk lid:

    1. DACP on polishing pad @ speed 6
    2. Deep Crystal Polish pn polishing pad @ 6
    3. NXT 2.0 on finishing pad @ 4

I used an ample (but not excessive) amount of DACP and the DC Polish, which were buffed in really well (almost until gone) and each was removed with a different microfiber.

I applied a moderate amount of NXT 2.0 to a finishing pad and lightly buffed it on. After letting it dry, I buffed it off with a clean microfiber. After I buffed it off. I could see front-to-back stripes (mimicking the path of the PC) where the depth of the paint's color were very noticably different. I tried reapplying the NXT2 and buffing off that application and all it did was change the areas of darker paint. I tried misting UQD on a microfiber and buffing the hood. That did make some difference, but I'm wondering about the effects that could have on the performance of the 2.0.

The finish looked great after the DACP and the DC2 Polish, but with a good majority of LSPs, I get the uneven coloring (NXT 1.0, NXT 2.0, Collinite Insulator, Colinite 476s etc, etc.).

I just occured to me...could I be using the LSPs too sparingly? I'm starting to wonder if the pad is soaking up most of the LSP in the beginning of the application (which is when I do the "tops") and is then being applied unevenly which would explain why the sides of the car don't suffer the same "discoloring" as the tops?

    Or am I completely off?

    Hey Don,

Yes it is possible. That is why Meguiar's suggests two even coats as that will help you obtain a uniform finish. Also, slow your speed down to speed 3. There is no need to run it at higher speeds as you are only using the DA to apply the product...

You know, I have read people having LSP streaking issues. But after all of the products both in pre-production and post production I have used over the years, I just do not have any LSP streaking issues. But then again, I do the recommended two coats of NXT, M21 etc...

For that reason I have stopped using the DA to apply LSP's. Although it is still possible to get great results with the DA, I have found that applying LSP's by hand leaves a much nicer, more uniform looking finish with just one coat. I still lay down two coats because it does ensure even coating and because I'm Car Crazy...

I also feel that applying LSP's by hand allows you to get into all those nooks and cranny's and weird angles with no problems.
