  • A Big Let Down,I need help

Last night I took my son to Pepboys with me and I parked under a very large neon light. Needless to say when I looked at my paint I noticed way to many swirl and light scratches that during the day I can't see. I thought I was doing a great job.

The Megs site recommends the following products and steps to keep my car in like new condition taking in all the conditions:
    *
    1. Gold Class wash
    2. Scratch X
    3. Deep Crystal Polish
    4. Gold Class clear coat
    5. Quick Wax
    *
What Megs proffessional car care products could I substitute these with (and do you recommend it) and please somebody tell me exactly what type of applicators to use with each step. I need a step by step process to print out and use. I do have a Porter Cable orbital Buffer.

    Recommendations would be appreciated,
    Tom.

I have been doing a lot of reading and asking for a lot of advice on these forums since I joined. Here's what I came up with and used on my Black truck with astonishing results.

#1 Wash vehicle thoroughly with whatever Meguiar's Car Wash you choose. I used NXT Car Wash.

#2 Clay the vehicle. I used Quik Detailer as a lubricant. And Yes, I did clay the windshield. This will remove and contaminants that are imbedded into the finish.

    #3 Wash the vehicle thoroughly.

#4 Use Scratch X by hand on the heavily scratched areas. Work in well.

#5 #83 Dual Action Cleaner Polish. Use a Polishing Pad with your DA set to speed 5. Work in well.

#6 #82 Swirl Free Polish. Use a Polishing Pad with your DA set to speed 4. Work in well.

#7 #81 Hand Polish. Use a Finishing Pad with your DA set to speed 3. Work in well.

#8 NXT Tech Wax. Use a Finishing Pad with your DA set to speed 3.

#9 Wait 12-24 hours, then apply another coat of NXT Tech Wax. Use a Finishing Pad with your DA set to speed 3.

#10 Wait 24 hours and use NXT Spray Wax. I had wiped this with a Microfiber Towel. In fact, I used a Microfiber Towel to remove all of the products in the steps above.

You can use a product like #7 Show Car Glaze over this if you care too, after everything has had a chance to "Cure". You can also use #26 Hi-Tech Yellow Wax to prolong the endurance of the finish. l plan on using NXT Spray Wax as a "Touch up" whenever needed and to do the same to prolong the finish. I am also considering using #34 Final Inspection for that "Special Look" and see how that looks.

I have received a ton of compliments on my Black Truck since I have done this. I even had a guy roll down his window at a a stop light to compliment me on the finish. It really does look like glass. I know this is a lenghthy process and it was a lot of work but it is really worth it. The result of your finish will be the effort you choose to put into it.

I have used Meguiar's products more that not over the years. I have even used Brand "Z" for a while. All I can say is "Meguiar's, Im back home Again, and plan to Stay!".

Sorry for the lenghty post. I hope this helps. Everyone here has sure helped me to accomplish the finish I was looking for.
