Re: Help with exterior detail strategy

I strongly advise against using a rotary unless you've done it before. It is not an easy thing to pick up and just start going at your car with.

A DA should be able to remove 99% of those defects by the way you describe them. I managed to get most all of my swirls out first try ever.

        G100 Dual Action Polisher
        W8006 Softbuff Polishing Pads (2)
        W9006 Softbuff Finishing Pad (1)
        M80 Speed Glaze 32 oz
        NXT Generation Tech Wax 2.0

Wash and dry the car thoroughly and then evaluate the surface for any roughness, which would indicate a need to clay. Yep, even on a new car. Use the M80 with the W8006 yellow polishing pad, following the instructions/tips spelled out in those links. Once that process is complete move onto the W9006 tan finishing pad to apply the NXT 2.0, allow it to fully dry and wipe off with a Supreme Shine microfiber.

This process, used with proper technique, will leave your black 350Z looking absolutely stunning.
Is this the DA your talking about?

        I found the G110 but didn't see a G100

yalerd and VonLego are spot on: If you've never used a rotary we would urge you to practice on something you don't care about before putting that machine down on your 350Z. A nice car is just flat out the wrong learning environment for this tool. If you don't know what you're doing with one, don't pick it up.

The G110 used with the M80 and W8006 will serve you very well, and yalerd has even mentioned first hand experience with this combination on the same car. There is no need to go to a more aggressive combination if this one works. We always teach that one should use the least aggressive approach to get the job done.

Id try the 80 first, if that doesnt cut it go for the 83 or even try the new 151 compound. That should take out all your cobwebs.
If its fast, loud, and runs on a flammable liquid...count me in.

Here is a link of a my roommates black 350Z. The paint on this car is trashed and probably waaaaay worse than your cars paint is. If you look at the 2nd page I posted pics of what ScratchX was able to do.

If you car only has light/medium swirls M80 and the G110 should have no problem removing them.

Wow looks great! Those scratches are horrid, I'd flip a switch if I saw that on my car. The scratches I have are no where near that bad so I suppose I dont even need to use a compound.

I'll try the m80 / G110 / W8006 Combo then. I'll submit the order later tonight. Thanks for all the help. Expect pictures soon enough!

                    Hey Michael,

Are these products available in local stores or only through Meg's online? I'd rather not pay for shipping if I dont have to.

                    Thanks

The G110 is going to be hard to find in stores locally, but give us a call here at the Customer Care Center - 800-347-5700 - and we'll waive shipping charges for you when order this list of products. You can ask for me or just order through any of the guys here.

                            TXrado,

Good luck. I think with your G110 and some M80 those swirls will be history. Not so sure about the scratch (it looks a bit deeper) but you might get it out aswell.

Can't wait for the after pics.

Give us a report back on your new toys. I got my DA a few weeks ago and I want to use it daily (only everytime I try, wifey gives me the evil eye). LOL
