  • First time using NXT 2.0 Paste.....what went wrong?

Hey guys. I tried the NXT paste for the first time this weekend and I thought everything went well. After washing and drying the car, I worked my way around the car applying and removing the wax. Since it was the first time using NXT, I did it a panel at a time and waited about 10-20 minutes for it to dry before buffing the residue off with microfiber towels. I tried to put it on thin and waited until it didn't smear when rubbed with a finger. After going around the car, I repeated the process for a second coat.

The next day, I noticed splotches of haze on the hood. Have you guys seen this effect before? Could it be the result of putting too much or little wax on? I live in Atlanta so it's hot and humid....did it need more drying time? Thanks in advance for any help.

These areas you see where there are streaks or darker patches next to less dark patches is just uneven product on the surface, in other words it's excess residue that needs to be removed or evened out.

Often times you can even it out by applying a second coat, apply it thin, let it fully dry and then remove.

You can also evening out the appearance by wiping the finish with a quick detailer. It will disappear when you wash the car also.

If you have some Quik Detailer or some Ultimate Quik Detailer, try misting some some on and the gently and carefully wiping it off using a clean, soft, plush microfiber polishing cloth.

Did you do any prep work as well? Cleaning, claying? Having a prepped surface can make applying thin coats easier.

Thanks for the quick respone Mike. Wiping with QD took care of it.

Murr, the car is only 6 months old and I wash it monthly, so I didn't think it need to be clayed. All I did was wash/dry, spot polish some scuff marks caused by road debris, wash/dry again, then the NXT. I think I was just putting it on way to thick.

Your might not need it but, most cars are shipped by rail and have rail dust. I have seen many, many new cars right off the dealer lot that needed claying.

A good way to check is the next time you wash your car run your hand across the top and see if you feel little bumps in the paint. If it feels smooth as new glass then your okay. I would bet you will feel some little bumps. If you do claying is a very easy process.

Be sure to rewax your car afterward.
