  • Another question/Recommendation for High Heat application

I've looked and searched the forum on posts about applications in high heat areas and found a few on using the products on the engine.

I was wondering about using products on a BBQ Smoker in order to keep them looking good. I figure if it will hold up to the heat of an engine, it should do OK for a 250-450*F smoker.

Could you give some recommendations for a smooth surface polish/wax for use in this area? I'm wanting to use them on Weber Smokey Mountain bullet smokers.

Thanks for all the help and insight.

Well, the wax will likely wear off quite quickly, but it is not as if it will melt into blob... it just wears off.

If it is bare metal, you could go with clay and a metal polish. (Dont use the clay back on your cars paint).

If it is painted/powder coated, etc, you can give it a mild cleaning with the DC#1 paint cleaner, and wax with any wax, maybe synthetic would last a little longer. So Nxt, #21, #20 would be ones to look at.

A simpler option would be to just clay if needed then use a cleaner/wax, not a bad use for the Cleaner/Wax sample sizes, or ColorX, etc....

Claying won't be necessary, it's a powder coated and ceramic lined metal smoker. It cleans really well, I just wanted it to look a little better.

Re: Another question/Recommendation for High Heat application

        Hi John,

Great question, hope my second answer here was of help too...

We don't really make appearance products for high heat surfaces, the best FIRST thing to do will be to contact the manufactures and ask them what they recommend.

We have stainless steel Barbecue on the back patio and we keep the inside clean by periodically cleaning it with oven cleaner purchased at as it's the best bang for the buck compared to Easy Off oven cleaner at a retail store.

For the outside we wash with dish soap to remove any grease that builds up and after we re-assemble the entire thing and it's all dry we wipe the exterior stainless steel finish down with NXT Glass Cleaner and a microfiber and it usually look pretty good.

Keep your expectations real for maintaining things like this and if the Barbecue you're thinking about buying looks like it's going to be hard to maintain, then maybe look at a stainless steel version?

To date, most people that have shared their experience on cleaning and polishing Powered Coated components have found this type of coating to not be "User Friendly".

Again, call the manufacture and just ask them this question,

"If I get a scratch in the outside paint, how can I remove it and restore a new looking finish?"

Then ask them if you can get their recommendation on paper to go with their regular guarantee for the unit itself.

Post back here what you find out....

Sorry to say but not everything engineered, manufactured and sold to the public is designed for us to quickly, and easily work on.

I'm going to clean up and try applying some of the NXT on one of my WSM's this weekend and I'll be doing a 12 hour smoke with it on Monday. Between Ribs, Brisket and Pork, I'll get alot of heat time. I'll post back and let you know how it holds up.
