  • Ready to Detail-Looking for advice.

I own a BLACK 2001 Tahoe I take very good care of. I wash/wax often and keep the Tahoe in good shape. I just bought the PC 7336 and am ready to get started.

I am palnning on washing the Tahoe with Dawn to strip the wax off and all other contaminants.

Next I will clay bar with the Megs Quick Clay Bar Kit.

Then what? I am planning on using Gold Class Wax. Is this all I need to do? I want a great looking car with a deep rich color.

What do you guys recommend? Is NXT the best wax Meguiar's offers?

Give me some ideas. I don't have to many stains or water spots, but I do see some imperfections in the paint I am hoping to get out.

    These forums ROCK!!

    Thanks guys.

    Mark,

    Some suggestions...

Dump the Dawn. Dawn is for dishes not painted surfaces. Wash with a good car wash like NXT Tech Wash or Gold Class Wash. Use a new sheepskin wash mitt and the two bucket method to avoid introducing new paint blemishes. Dry with a waffle weave microfiber towel.

Don't worry about removing the old wax. Clay should do a nice job of that.

You mentioned some paint defects. You may wish to use a polish to clean these up. I'd recommend #80. If you have any scratches to remove, pick up a tube of ScratchX too. Again use a microfiber towel for removal.

I would opt for NXT Tech Wax over Gold Class Wax. NXT is much easier to apply and remove and lasts much longer. I think it shines as well or better than Gold Class especially on black. I'd also apply two coats a day apart. You will be surprised at how quickly you can apply and remove a coat of NXT.

      Silverado19,

I would have to agree with jfelbab on this. One thing I would also suggest would be a paint cleaner like MPPC. Aside from its cleaning aspects, it will help prep the surface to be polished and waxed.

As jfelbab said, I would also reccomend #80. #82 can also be a good choice and #83 is great is you need a little more cutting action. If you want a deep, wet looking result and have darker paint I would follow #80 with #81 Hand Polish. It will add more oils to enhance the look of the paint.

Of course this should all be topped by NXT, preferably 2 coats atleast 12 hours apart. I like to top my NXT Wax with MPPP, but that's just me. Everyone has their favorite combinations!

      Good luck!

        Silverado19...

I always use a polish it will add to the depth of your paint, now that you have a PC it makes everything easier, faster and better!

          Yes.

I would deffinately suggest a paint cleaner like Deep Crystal #1. It does a great job, can be applied by hand, and works wonders on a well maintained black finish.

I would then move on to #9 or Deep Crystal #2 depending on the defects (#9 is more aggressive) with a PC if you have one for the #9 or by hand for the DC #2.

Then, for a dazzling black, soaking wet look, hit it with #7.

Finally i would either do 2 coats of NXT, or use Gold Class wax topped with the wonderful carnauba wax from the deep crystal system #3.

I used the gold class and carnauba on my Onyx black 1999 Chevy S-10 Xtreme, and wow does it look amazing. I've heard that 2 coats of NXT looks even better though. Just remember to wait at least 12 hours between coats of wax to let it properly set up.

this all soundds like alot of work, but you'll be very happy with the end result. it really looks like there's a sheet of water on whatever body panel you look at.

          happy to help,

          Stevo

As you can see, everyone has their own prescription for shine !

This is what I would use:

Gold Glass wash (wash mitt + 2 buckets)
Clay Bar ( I prefer Megs over spray clay)
            Gold Glass Wash
            #83 with PC 8006 pad speed 5
            #82 with PC 8006 pad speed 4
            NXT x 2 (12 hour apart) with 9006 pad speed 3
            #16 by hand.
