Just a quick quesiton. I've done some searching to no avail so I figured I would ask. Can you use a 8" pad on a 6.5" backing plate? I just want to know if I need to buy two backing plates for the rotary. Thanks.

Re: Question on pad and backing plate size?
Are you asking this for use with a rotary buffer or a dual action polisher?
If you're referring to this combination with a rotary buffer then the larger pads can be used with the smaller backing plates but you'll have a lot of give around the outside of the pad because there's no backing plate behind the pad to support it. This will tend to reduce how aggressive the cleaning action of the process is but that's not always a bad thing. It can also help when working on real curvy panels.
It is not a Meguiar's recommended procedure so we make no performance claims for this combination.
If you're referring to this combination with a dual action polisher the larger pads will reduce the effectiveness of the available power from the dual action polisher because of the increased surface area the tool must try to move over the surface, both oscillating and rotating.
