  • ultimate wipe vs. microfiber drying towel

    Hi,

I'm still pretty new to detailing and have a few questions.

I'm trying to figure what is the best for hand applying the DC system. Should I get the foam applicator pads to apply the product, then use the ultimate wipe to buff it off? Is that overkill, would the Meguiars terrycloth towels be fine?

Is the microfiber drying towel a replacement for a chamois?

Sorry for all the questions but I'm just a little confused with the sheer amount of products that are available to purchase.

    Thanks for any help.

    grover,

I would recommend the foam apps for applying most products. Although, I still use terry cloth applicators on occasion with certain products when I want a little more "bite".

For removal of products, most prefer good quality MF towels. However, there is certainly nothing wrong with high quality cotton towels. As a matter of fact, in some cases, and with certain products, the cotton towels have an advantage for removing the product. Keep a good supply of both around, with the majority being the MF's.

Yes, the waffle weave drying towels are a replacement for the chamois, and the good ones are a very good replacment.

      Hi Grover,

Boss is correct in everything, but I would like to add a comment,

When applying the Deep Crystal System, if you are working on a clear coat finish in good to excellent condition, lean towards applying your products using the small, round foam applicators like Meguiar's offers. (Part number W-0004).

      Meguiar's philosophy state,

Always use the least aggressive product to get the job done"

In keeping with that philosophy, the foam applicator pads are less aggressive than terry cloth towels. As Boss_429 mentioned, terry cloth will give your product a little more bite.

This is helpful when trying to remove defects like swirls, scratches, oxidation, d.i.p., stains, etc. during the cleaning step. The way this works is the little cotton loops called the nap, together with your choice of product act as a mild form of an abrasive giving you a little more cleaning power. That said, if you finish is in good condition, stick with the foam applicators.
