  • Weird scratches on hood of car...ideas?

This question was emailed to me and I'm not sure what these little scratches are from. I can't see them coming from any of the steps this user did. Any Ideas? Start of check cracking maybe? It's a 2007 Civic So I can't see it as being that.

It looks horrible....the swirl remover did not take them out. I ran my fingernail over them and could not feel them so they should be able to come out. Heres a couple pictures of the scratches...

Do you have a lighted magnifying glass ? This would be a great time to use one.

You would be able to see up close what is going on...

Yeah that was the first thing I asked him and he said no. I told him to try and send me a Macro pic closer up....will post those pics when he replies. it almost looks like damage from debris hitting the car with very high winds but he said it was only on the hood.

check out this thread, it looks similar to this issue
Original thread on the progress (or lack of) on my first D/A project: http://meguiarsonline.com/forums/showthread.php?t=23506 The marks in the pictures below are not new, but after going over the right fender with the D/A they are much more noticeable. I was never expecting the D/A to remove these since some look very deep.

Well if Mikes Pilot is getting them too maybe this is not so uncommon with Honda's. I'll forward this thread to him.

          Thanks

No luck with his macro pics....he said the camera kept blurring up on him. I sent him the link and hopefully that will answer his question.

            Thanks for the help guys.

It's a Honda thing. I have one that I did a while back that looked exactly the same. A little M105 and a wool pad, and they are no more

Not sure what causes them. But they can be remmoved fairly easily.

Re: Weird scratches on hood of car...ideas?

I wanted to revist this thread as I have the same thing going on with my 2000 Civic and my wifes 1995 Accord. After finding this thread I am going to try the 105 on the hoods this weekend with a wool pad. Anyone else had any luck removing these fine scratches? I was thinking about buying some ScratchX to see if would help, but I already have some 105 at the house and will try that if it works. Thanks

My Civic has that on the nose of the hood. I was told it was called crows feet and was often the first stage of clear coat failure.

My wifes Focus has these too. When I was working on it yesterday I noticed these type of scratched, they look like very small "nicks", couldn't get them out with the DA & 105.

Oh well hate to hear this, was hoping to some way cover them up as after waxing the last time they are all white looking and very noticable on both of our cars.

I detailed a 1998 Ford Explorer "Eddie Bauer" edition with the same problem. I assumed it was a paint defect.

They're weird looking, at first I thought I did something wrong. They're more predominate on the lower half of the hood where the majority of the paint chips are.
