  • hows this sound

So im new here and i just got my 7424 , i need to remove light to moderate scratches and swirls in my 04 Jetta/black abd 00pathfinder?black.

i've read posts on how to use this tool and products for hours now and i put togeather a plan so hows this sound, fell free to suggest things.

    wash
    clay
    M83 via (7424)/cutting pad
nxt 2.0, via 7424 i know i dont have to but why not

i will buff off by hand, also im having a heck of a time finding pads i assume the meg. 8006 is the same as the 8000 thats on line?

    Re: hows this sound

Welcome to MOL, looks good but just to add a few suggestions. I would start with #80 to see how that does because you always want to go with the least aggressive method first and alot of the time #80 can be all you need but #83 is also good just in case you need something a little more aggressive. Also you will want to be using W8006 foam polishing pad for the polishing and W9006 foam finishing pad for the wax. You have it that you will be using a cutting pad? are you referring to the W7006 foam cutting pad ( red )? If so that is not recommended for use with a DA unless you are using it to hold something like a micro fiber bonnet for wax. The W8006 and W8000 are the same material pads with the only difference being the size. The W8006 is a 6.5" pad and the W8000 is a 8" pad. One more thing when you are starting out you will want to start with a test spot around 12" by 12" or so and fine tune your technique and also to get your process and products down before you tackle the who care. The last thing you want to do is polish out the whole care look back and have to redo it because you did not go aggressive enough or something like that.

What types of pads are you using?
I ask this because you are saying cutting pad and then mention the Meguiar's W8006

If you are using Meguiar's pads then W7006 Cutting Pad is not recommended for this tool. Get the W8006 Polishing Pad and W9006 Finishing Pad for the process you are going to be doing.

Your process seems fine, but personally I would get #80 Speed Glaze, it leaves the finish very wet and deep and if you haven't done a test spot then you don't know if #80 alone will remove the defects (less steps for you) and if it doesn't remove the defects then you'll have to use #83 and see how it leaves the finish to know if you have to use #80 or you can jump straight to the wax

Remember to get enough pads, when you switch product you chance pads.
      W8006 will be for #83 and #80
W9006 will be for NXT 2.0

Something that I forgot to mention, do a test spot first, test #80 and see the results, if you see that you still have swirls but with one application it removed almost everything then do a second pass and evaluate.

thanks for your fast replys, i already bought the 83 so i have to start with that , probally should have got the 80 but i felt the severity needs 83. any ways i have no pads yet it live in Edm.alberta and cant find anything in store anywhere, ( very frustrating) especially now i have the tool and product, and really want to get started. with the 7424 i want a pad from meg.'s but the only online pad seems to be the 8000 series which i just found out 8inches.to big.

if you know where i can get the 8006 9006 and a backing pad please let me know.

i also forgot to mention my inlaw came over when he heard i got the 7424, and all i had is the foam pad it came with, against my suggestion he wanted me to giver a go, i used it and it gave results he liked but having somewhat an eye for this i never got the scratches out just hid them, this being said, do pads make the job or is it a combo of both.

You really don't know until you do a test spot

You can always go to ADS and Rick has all the types of pads Meguiar's has, maybe you can get one of the combo to have enough pads for your detail

Meguiar's does not recommend using our cutting pad on any dual action polisher at this time. While it works great with a rotary buffer, when you change the movement of the pad to an oscillation action it can haze or micro-mar the finish.

If you're using any company's cutting pad on a DA Polisher then here's some free advice... only do a small section about a foot squared or so on each car to see how the paint reacts and what the results look like. This is called a "Test Spot".

If your test spot looks good then do the entire car. If the test spot doesn't look good, then you'll be glad you didn't go over the entire car.

After you clean and polish paint it's normal to apply a coating of wax to protect the paint. Machine application makes it easier to do a better job and lay down a thin coat but you should use a dedicated pad for this, not one that's been used with another product.

Same type of foam formula, different size.

Do you know where you're local PBE store is located? Check with them for Professional products.

There's a how to thread in the "How To Articles" forum on how to find a PBE store.

You can get the pads at ADS. Buying the PC training DVD is highly recommended as well.

Best to buy in the packs of 6.

It's a combo of both, with that tool that you have a product can perform two ways, it will perform with W8006 pad very differently compared to the W9006

The combination of this only the test spot will tell, "if you can make one small section look good then chances are that duplicating this process you'll make the hole car look good" Mike Phillips says this a lot

                        Re: hows this sound

Well when waxing you'll need just one pad basically (if you don't drop it to the floor) maybe you try to get more W8006 just in case and 2 W9006 pads should be fine
