  • Detailing Shortcut

I was all prepared to follow the 5 steps of detailing yesterday. My 3 young sons had other plans. I was detoured after using the paint cleaner. Is there any harm with skipping polishing, and waxing and going straight to the ultimate spray? I love the spray, it's quick, easy and makes the car look great. I didn't have time to do any other steps. My car is 5 months old so the paint is obviously in great shape. Thanks.

That is why there are 5 steps, because you need to do them all. If you want a shortcut- use a cleaner wax.

Since you are limited in the amount of time you can spend working on your vehicles finish, you should try a product like ColorX or Meg's Ceaner Wax. They will achieve an excellent finish in the fraction of the time. Both will give you durable, long lasting protection at the fraction of the time it would take you to do the 5-Steps. The only thing I would advise you not to skip is the claying process. Leaving a coat of wax on you vehicles paint is extremely important as this will protect your paint from harmful elements it's exposed to.

Also, with a coat of wax on your finish your QD of choice will go on easier and faster... you can always save your QD for when you don't use a Cleaner wax, and just washed your vehicle.

waxing is a must. I think that using a qd without wax. It will be very difficult to remove the qd. I would use all the steps. I sometimes go with a cleaner wax when pressed for time. But I never skip the waxing.

            Here are your shortcuts:

            Left to right:

Cleaner Wax - AKA A12 (Consumer Line), Color-X (or Colour-X in Europe, Australia & parts of Canada ) Mike calls this A-12 on Steroids, #6 Cleaner Wax from the Professional Line, #66 Quick Detailer-Cleaner Wax, also from the Professional Line.

All these products will do some light to moderate cleaning, light scratch removal and leave behind a protective wax coating...EXACTLY what you want when time is short...

In the book Ultimate Auto Detailing by David H. Jacobs Jr. one of the author's assistants owns a Porsche and will let NOTHING BUT the A-12 Cleaner Wax touch his cars...
