  • received pc today from coastal tool....no side handle...NORMAL??

got my order today of PORTER CABLE 7424 6" POLISHER BONUS KIT, but no side handle?

    on pc's website it says
Standard Equipment: Polisher, polishing pad #54745, wrench #48779, side handle, and operating manual
    any thoughts?

i email coastal tool and tried calling (but i'm guessing they're eastern time, so that doesn't help me today)

    Hi zzzzzeke,

It was probably just a mistake.

I don't use mine, it' gets in the way, before you worry to much about it, go out and use it first.

Place one hand on the main body in a way that it enables you to turn the machine on and off with your thumb, and the place the palm of your other hand on the head of the buffer.

This gives you good control, plus it help you to place equal pressure down on the foam pad. I notice when people start out if they use the handle, they tend put more weight on the handle and thus polish with more pressure on one side of the pad versus equal pressure over the entire pad.

You want the pad to be completely flat against the surface when your buffing.

    Hope this helps...

Got mine from Coastal and it came with the handle. Probably just a Porter Cable packaging mistake. Shouldn't be any problem getting one. But Mike is right. I stopped using my side handle unless I am doing the bottom of the doors. Then it makes it easier for me to grip it.

          Hey,

I agree with the others, probably just a mistake. I would call the dealer and let them know.

As far as using it however, I too do not use mine.

Just received mine today from Coastal Tool and it came with a handle. I would call Coastal and tell them about it. You are right, It does recommend using the handle.

              Hey
When I got mine from Lowes , I used the handle, next time I took the handle off, haven't used it since. More control, better balance, even pressure.

You paid for it, so you are entitled to a handle! I'm sure it was a packaging mistake. I also got mine from coastal months ago, used the handle the first time, then took it off and haven't looked back. However, you should have the option.

I disagree about not having a handle. When I was down at Meguiars for one of the detail clinics , I was going nuts using a PC without a handle. I guess I am just used to it.

I guarantee Coastal will send you a handle. Just call them.

If not, I'll send you one of mine.

I don't use them since visiting Irvine. (Cause I wanna be like Mike!)

I'm in the "no handle on the horizontal surfaces camp" but I also like the handle when I do the vertical surfaces. I think it is just what you get used to though.

I'd request a replacement handle anyway.
