  • Waxing Problem

Im somewhat of a noob when in comes to waxing and I recently used Meguiars Gold Series for the first time. I applied the wax, let it dry and had issues removing the wax. When I tried to buff it off by hand, it did not come off easy at all and kind of left a speckled appearance on the car, but with more buffing it all came off and it looked nice.... I just want to know what I might have done wrong so next time will be easier.

    Re: Waxing Problem

Hi and welcome to Meguiar's Online!

Is this car a daily driver?

If you it's likely you need to use some detailing clay to clay the paint first and remove any above surface bonded contaminants.

    Check out this video

How to use detailing clay at Meguiar's Garage

Again, if this is a daily driver then after claying you'll likely want to use a paint cleaner to really clean the paint well before applying the wax, a good choice is our Deep Crystal Paint Cleaner

You apply the paint cleaner after claying and only do a small section at a time so you can really focus on working the product over the paint really well, about 16" square or so, after you work the product then wipe it off immediately as this product doesn't need to dry, (only waxes need to dry).

Now apply the Gold Class Wax or any wax and it will work so much better....

      Re: Waxing Problem

      2 things:

      1. Gold Class is meant to be applied to a prepped surface. That means washed, clayed if needed, cleaned and polished. You could either use seperate products for each step, or do a wash, clay, cleaner/wax, wax. Since 2 coats of wax are recomended, the cleaner/wax would also count as your first coat of wax.

      2. It is best to apply thin even coats, and make sure they dry completly. You may have applied to thick in spots, and not let it dry enough. Then, once you removed the surrounding wax, the wet spots dried and could be removed.

Give these a read over as well if you are new. Understanding them will put you ahead of most people who say thay are detailers...

        Re: Waxing Problem

Most people new to detailing can find a handful of articles in these two forums that will answer questions they have about detailing their own car...

Hot Topics 3 pages of information
        How To Articles

If you're unsure as to how to navigate between pages in a thread basically you want to look for the little numbers at the top and bottom of each thread and these numbers represent the pages of the thread. Here's a picture,
