  • Is Scratch-X Permanent?

I used Scratch-X to remove a couple scratches and it worked great, but after a couple of weeks the scratches have reappeared. Am I using the product incorrectly or is this a product that must be used regularly?

    Confused,

    Dave

It should be permanent as you are actually taking layers off of the paint in the process. Maybe they got really dull and not be able to be seen from different angles and you thought it was out, but really it wasn't quite deep enough yet? I know I couldn't find the scratch in my car, then I found it the morning after.

Did you work Scratch X in. Sometimes it takes multiple applications.

You may somehow be re-installing scratches back into your paint. This is usually caused by improper washing techniques. How do you wash your vehicle?

If you really removed the scratches using this product then they are gone.

Just to note, ScratchX is a paint cleaner not a wax or paint protectant. After using "any" paint cleaner, you're supposed to apply a wax or some kind of paint sealant.

Did you do this? (apply a wax after using a paint cleaner?) Remember, polishing paint is a process where the end-result is after you apply your LSP, not after you use a compound or a paint cleaner.

Thanks for your comments. I did not follow-up with wax after I used the Scratch-X but under close inspection the scratches appeared to be gone after I used the product. I will try it again and follow-up with wax. I'll let you know how it goes.

            Thanks,

            Dave
