I had a huge bird bomb on the hood of my black Altima coupe. I removed the bird droppings but a spot remained in the paint that would not come out even after using Meguiar's Quick Detail. I even tried Scratch-X, but it didn't remove the spot. Any suggestions? Should I continue trying to get the spot off using Scratch-X?

Re: Removing spot left by bird bomb
Hi:
Sorry to hear about your paint. If you could post a close up picture it would help.
The pollen is flying and the birds are bombing -- spring is great.
Sounds like the bird dropping has etched your paint, area looks dull.
Depending on your paint it may be difficult to get out. Your best option to deal with this will be Scratch-X if you are working by hand. The area needs to be clean and the surface should be cool to the touch.
You can use either a foam applicator or cotton terry towel to apply SX. The heaver the cotton towel the better. The cotton towel will give you more "bite" than the foam. You can experiment to see which works best. The towel has worked better for me.
Remember you arm is the motor so you will have to work the SX with some pressure. If you use a towel wrap it around two of your fingers so you can work a small area. Apply the SX to the towel and then spread the SX on a small area of the bird dropping. You can only work a small area at a time about the width of your two fingers. Work the SX until it goes clear, use enough SX so that you will have a film of product as you use it. When you are using a cotton towel to apply it and you start to get a squeaking sound you are running out of product film and need to stop; wipe the area and start again. Always having a film of product will prevent instilling any scratches in the paint. Wipe the area clean with another cloth and inspect. Work the product from different directions if possible so you will get uniform coverage across the area you are trying to correct. It you can get it out by hand it will take a number of applications. If it is not starting to look better after 4 to 6 applications then it may take a machine to remove.
Good luck.

KTruckYou may need 1,2, or even 6 applications of scratch-x before it will be gone. Wash it, clay it and try the scratchx using the terry towel method mentioned above. It should come out.

Check this thread out
How to remove a defect with ScratchX
There is another article where Mike cut up little pieces of sandpaper and got defects out of a BMW hood, but for the life of me I can't find the thread.
The above should help. Passion behind the pad and multi passes.
Keep us posted.
