  • Metallic cars?

Whats the best way to get the metallic flakes to really pop out? I have a Pearl White car and a Black Metallic car. I am looking for the best products and procedures to really get the flakes to pop out.

    Re: Metallic cars?

Since both cars have a clear coat, the goal is to make the clear coat as clear as possible, you do that by removing as many of the defects like swirls and scratches as possible.

By making the clear coat as clear as possible your eyes will be able to see the metallic flake under the clear coat.

So what condition is the clear coat on your cars?

Mike's right; clarity of the clear coat is the only way to make the metallic really pop out. I just did a full detail on my dark blue metallic Silverado using M80 to remove all the light swirls from the DISO (although not that bad), and it really made the metallic shine through. Before, the swirls prevented the metal flake from reflecting clearly because the sun highlights all the defects. Once it was all polished, I topped it with NXT 2.0 and it looked gorgeous, although I'm curious what M26 would've done, since it's supposed to really add depth of color, like you can just dive into the paint.

The white pearl is a 94 Lincoln Mark VIII it has swirl marks and a few light scratches the other is a 2001 Infinity M45 black also with swirls and light scratches.
I was looking at M80/M83 I liked the NXT 2.0 on my gray accord but was thinking of trying some gold class oe M26 on these cars?

Start with a test spot using the M80 and see if one or two passes will do the trick. If two passes still isn't getting you the results you want step up to the M83 and do another test spot. You'll probably want to go back with a pass of M80 after the M83, if the M83 is even necessary. Remember those test spots are your guide to what you can do to the rest of the car. After you get the defects taken care of (this will determine how good your end results will be), do a side by side comparison and see which LSP you like best. I'm betting the NXT 2.0 will be the winner, but that's just my guess.

Let us know how it goes.
