Hey Rickster and Welcome to Meguiar's Online!!!

If the orbital buffer is a Porter Cable (known around here as the PC or G-100) then you will need the following Meguiar's products:

    W-64DA backing plate

W-8006 Polishing Pads (yellow) for polishes and cleaners

W-9006 Finishing Pads (beige) for glazes, light polishes, sealants and waxes.

I would suggest the minumum of 2 of each of the above pads.

    Cheers!

      Hey all--

I just registered last night and have found this to be a great site. I am already a member over at Autopia but thought joining a Meguiar's speciality forum would be even more beneficial.

So my question is: 2hot Ford--do you recommend the black cutting pad that Meguiar's offers? I currently use a polishing pad with #80 and I feel it does not have enough bite for my paint condition. It definitely works, but just takes way too long to be effective. Should I stay with #80 while bumping to a cutting pad or step up to DACP with a polishing pad? I am always confused about this. So in the end, the question is--more aggressive pad or product?

      many thanks--

Hey Erik and Welcome to Meguiar's Online!!!

The first question I have to ask is what buffer are you using?

If you are using a rotary buffer, then I would step up to #83 DACP and a Polishing pad. The next step up in aggresssiveness would be to use a W-7006 burgundy Cutting Pad and #84 Compound Power Cleaner. (#84 is for the rotary buffer only)

If you are using a PC, Meguiar's does not recommend the use of a cutting pad. Therefore, rather than using a cutting pad, it would be more beneficial to move up to #83 DACP with a W-8006 Polishing Pad. Use speed #5 on the PC and move the PC very slow. You will need to REALLY work the product to break down its diminishing abrasives, to the point where only a light residue/dust remains. Then wipe off with a MF towel.

When using a PC, the orbiting action is very safe. But it is also that safe action that makes the removal of surface defects time consuming. But, if you give the W-8006 and #83 a try, I have a feeling that you will be VERY happy!

Thanks Tim. I am in fact using a PC which I absolutely love, I just have to keep realizing that it doesn't necessarily save time (over hand polishing) but will give much better and more uniform results!

I will be ordering the Yellow polishing pad then, and trying a step up with #83...I'll follow with #9 then good ol' #16 x 2.

Thanks for the advice, I'm sure I'll have lots more to ask/offer.
