Re: System 2000 vs Universal Pad Washer
hahaha hey guys, that's me in the picture holding the RB over a bucket of water.
What I was doing was to lay the RB on the bucket, tip the edge of the wool pad in, and then using my fingers or a cloth submerged in the bucket, I hold it against the wool pad and on speed 1, hold the trigger about less than half, so it should only be spinning very slowly. The first time I tried and yes it did splatter all over my face, haha.
So don't try it and get the system2000 padwasher instead

Re: System 2000 vs Universal Pad Washer
Any time a new toy comes out, we try and play with it...so...we made the investment in this new system. We worked with both systems with an open mind but I gotta tell you, I like the system 2000 and thus we will stay loyal to that system.
We own several system 2000 units and have countless detailing students using the systems and they ROCK!
Big money and time saver for us!

Re: System 2000 vs Universal Pad Washer
Well...maybe I can add a little info.
I went to order the system 2000 and Rick at ADS pointed out that it is for ROTARY only as mentioned before. Bummer.
No worries, he carries the Universal system by Grit Guard. So I gave it a whirl...
first impressions: The design was a little more complex than I thought it was- it isn't just a grit guard in a bucket. The grit guard is a unique shape with a hump in the middle, and it is attached to a spring loaded mechanism that has 4 different cylindrical pumps attached to it. As you press down on the top of the grit guard (presumably with the pad) it pumps soapy water out the cylinders and onto your pad.
Nitty gritty: For my 6.5/7 inch pads the spacing on the sprayers tends to shoot around the pad...or at least 1 of them does.
The pumps are "eh," but I guess it gets the job done.
As for how well it works? I had the most success with my foamed wool pads, and my softer pads (CCS blue for example), but on my WHITE CCS pads the Meg's #7 sure doesn't like to come out. They are still fairly stained with a mustard look to them right now.
It WAS very nice to have and it did allow me to switch products and pads much more freely without fear of running out of pads.
My final verdict on whether or not I recommend this will have to wait a week or twoas I want to experiment with it a bit more. I only have 1 solid day under my belt with my new toy.
Also, WIW I was using a FLEX on the unit...not a straight DA or a rotary.

Once you learn to use a proper water level (I like it so when the top guard is fully pushed down the water level is slightly above the top of the guard), the system works extremely well.
I still tend to use my rotary the most, but it works VERY well. I put it on the lowest speed and spin it for about 15 seconds only and it is 100% clean every single time.
It even works on old, caked on stuff if you get lazy and leave it on there for a while.
Great product.

Re: System 2000 vs Universal Pad Washer
Based on the above, it seems the System 2000 will work well on your wool pads on your rotary because the spurs can "dig" into the wool to clean it out. I guess it would not work so well with a DA because it would not spin the spurs like a rotary would.
The Grit Guard version seems like it would work great on foam pads on your DA but I wonder if rubbing wool on a Grit Guard would prematurely wear out the wool pads?

Re: System 2000 vs Universal Pad Washer
I've had the S2000 for about 2 years now. It works very well on the rotary for wool and larger foam pads, the ones with the hole in the center. With the smaller foam pads, ones that don't have a hole in the center, it seems to have a little trouble getting that area clean becasue they don't pass over the spurs as well.
I just tried the UPW today and it worked very well on the smaller foam pads. I think I like the S2000 better for wool and larger pads though.
Had I been able to try both before buying them, I would have gone with just the UPW. It also seems like it's a lot easier to clean too.
