  • Questions about my routine

I just got into detailing last yr Ive asked a few questions on here but have a few more. I have some 83, 80 , and some 26. I use lake country pads I have the orange, white, and blue pads. My pads do not seem to want to come all the way clean. Do you guys always use the same pad for 83 and the same one for 80 incase it doesnt get all the way clean? 1 of my orange pads has white residue on top still. I have the flat pads also and thinking about changing to somethin else you guys have any ideas on the pads I can change too? Would it be better for me to add another step also for some better results? I have a porter cable just to let you know.

    Thanks,
    John

    1. I dont think pads will ever come perfect after they have been used.

    2. As far as your process, #83 shouldnt be needed every time. If you do need it every time, then you have a problem with putting a lot of heavy swirl marks into the finish somehow. Wash-Clay-#80+#26 should be a very good detail. If your car is a dark color, or maybe even any colored show car, you could follow #80 with a pure polish like #7, or a finer cleaner/polish like #9/#82. But for a light colored daily driver, #80-#26 should be great.

Yeh my car is black and I want a show finish it is not driven much at all. I do not use 83 every time either. So you think 80, 7, then 26? I might pic up some meguiars pads also 7006 for #83 right, 8006 for #80 and #7 then a 9006 for the #26?

          8006 for #83, 8006 for #80, I believe #8006 for #7, and 9006 for #26.

DC2 is also a pure polish, and so could be used. It is a bit easier to use as it is for the average consumer,#7 can take a little getting used to, but it is the top of the line.

Meguiar's doesn't recommend our cutting pads for use with dual action polishers, if you use one, you may get some hazing or micro-marring.

The W-8006 is versatile and can be used with just about any paint care product.

W-9006 is good for your finishing wax.

Thanks man I think I might pick up 2 of the 8006 pads and also some #7 and still use my blue lc pad for the wax. Is it fine to throw all my pads in the washer together with hot water? You guys just use reg detergent also? I think there was a thread on pad cleaning somewhere.

Looking at this chart it shows using 9006 to apply the #7?

Hey John! (Andrew here). Lots of good info to be found in this place. If you ever want to come over (or invite me i wanna see your garage!) Let me know. I've got some #7 if you want to try it. And the rotary too, let's just not practice on your SS
