    Hello Everyone,

I am amazed at the interest here to get the Mirror Look on the cars we own and cherish.
I just bought a Black 04 Grand Am GT and altho I heard "Ohh you dont want a black car, there impossibel to keep clean" I went ahead anyways and bought Black because I had always wanted a Black car.

Anyways, Upon my first washing last week of the car I was a little concerned over some water spotting that developed on the roof, hood and trunk areas.
I had seen the Meguiars line in stores and magazines and opted to get the cleaner wax, Deep Crystal Carn wax and the Gold Classic paste wax. I washed and tried the vinegar thing on a spot on the trunk to no avail...Washed again on Saturday and waxed.
The car looks good but not to its full potential. I read somewhere on the site it would have been better to use polish first then wax ......
The car still has a coarse feel still upon running your hand over the paint, Im looking to get the look and feel like I have on the doors.......I gather when the car sat on the dealership lot for 6 months this is where it got the spotting etc......

But I think with the Meguiar line ,the help here and a little extra work on my behalf nd Ill obtain that mirror shine.

The other question I have here is I noticed everyone talking in the forum about the Porter Cable polisher.. I thought, Hey I have the 7336 sander down in my garage. I bought it for my woodworking projects but its been idle for months.

Can I buy the pads and bonnets from Meguiars and use the 7336
    as a poilsher.. ?

    Thanks appreciate any help here!!

Hey Rob and Welcome to Meguiar's Online!!!

Yes, you sure can use the 7336, in fact many prefer it. The PC 7336 comes with a 6" counter-weight where as the the PC 7424 comes with the 5". Some say that you get less vibration with the 6" counter-weight when the PC is used at higer speeds. Now while I have never had trouble with vibration with my 7424, the 7336 may be a little smoother.

You will need the Meguiar's backing plate W-64DA and a few pads:

2 each of W-8006 Polishing Pads
1 of the W-9006 Finishing Pad

The above will get you started!

Good luck and keep us posted!!!

Probably right about the spotting. Dealers probably just hose the cars off and let them air dry. But the coarse feel is probably contaminants in the paint. You'll want to use a clay bar to clean those off.

Polishing, using an abrasive polish like #83, #82, or #80, will remove any swirl marks and other defects that you have on the car. Then you'd add your wax to protect the car and add beauty. This FAQ should help explain it all.

This kit would probably be perfect to get you started. It includes the stuff 2hotford mentioned, but is cheaper than buying the stuff seperately. It's in the normal Meguiar's store in the Tools & Accessories section under Detailing.

Reviews of the Ultimate Bonnet (also there in the Detailing area) seem to be pretty good if you want some of those too.

Thank you both for the information about the use of the PC 7336.
I'll order the pads and I figure Ill get used to the PC on my 96 Cavalier which is in dire need of some TLC on the exterior.

Ill also look into the clay bar for use on the coarse fell on the Grand Am.....

        Thanks Again,
        Rob

          Ordered/Received Today

I ordered the kit for the PC and in the same order I received the Quick Clay detailing system,
First Id like to say my order I placed over the weekend was filled promptly and I received it Thursday Afternoon via UPS , I was thinking I was going to receive it next week, but I recalled reading somewhere in the forum that the Dist Center was in TN not CA as I first thought.

I posted that my New car did not have the smooth as glass feel,, I just clayed a small section on the roof area and holy cow What a difference It really does work!!! The section I clayed must have cleaned away the contaminants because it has that smooth as glass feel now....

I hope to complete the whole car this weekend,,, after claying i was thinking of using Step#2 Polish or the #7 glaze, then if i have time the gold class wax..

For the PC, Now that i have the kit, I figure I can get some practice in on my 96 Cavalier which is in dire need of some TLC detailng wise.....

Meguiars really opened up my eyes to show me how a car should be waxed/detailed.. And the forum help here is excellent

          Thanks
          Rob

Wanna see if your new car needs to be clayed? Wet the surface of the hood, put your fingers in a plastic sandwich bag, and glide your fingers over the wet surface.

Betcha you'lll be getting the mild clay bar real soon.

I have a thread up where I am trying to remove some swirls. Where I was recommended to the PC7424, well I went to lowes and all they had was a 7336 so it looks like this is what I am getting. My question is where can I look to find these parts above. Autozone, Pepboys, checker? Or do I have to special order them.
Thanks, and sorry for hijacking the thread

                Hey,

The easiest place to locate the items would be through Meguiar's Online. But if you would prefer to buy them locally, then I suggest looking in your Yellow Pages under Paint, Body and Equipment stores, or Autobody Supplies.

                    Hey,

I have to agree with Scrub. Once you get a taste of how good something can look when using the correct: products, tools and know-how, it does become an addiction!!

Yes, I think I have the fever, I spent all day workin on the Cavalier.
Being a Rookie here and especilaly with the PC I used the deep crystal 1,2,3, system along with the trim detailer.

The Car looks great considering I had the car 8 yrs and maybe put one coat of wax on it. Lookin real good now ......Hope to take some pics soon...........

                      Also,
The forum here is a great help and one thing that ive noticed here thats different from alot of other user forums.
There seems to be no attitudes and everyone here seems to lend a helping hand of advice to any questions posted. Good going.

Now all I need is a little more dough in the wallet to purchase some products off of the Pro Line!!

Enjoy the rest of the weekend!!
