M105 vs M86

Hi guys,

I am in the dilemma of making decision which one to get.

If M86 pair with W4000/W5000 will it perform the same as using So1o kit heavy/light pad wool ?

Other than that, if M86 use with W8006/W9006 will the result again same as Diamond polishing and finishing pad ?

Which product have longer working time ?

Pls kindly advice.

M86 was designed to be used with the pads in the Solo System, you can use it with other pads, but it won't be exactly the same because the pads won't be the same as the pads in the system the M86 was dialed in to work with.

Thanks for the speedy reply.

I would like to work my old junk paint. The car was park under hotsun and acid raining since respray many years back and treated with many type of product...( i wasn't exactly know how to start detailing)

Here's the paint condition.

Ps : I do not have a PTG here. What would u suggest ?

It's only 11:30 here...yawn...

The W4000 pad is more aggressive than the So1o Heavy Cut wool pad.

Personally, I think So1o has more work time than M105.

M105 and M86 have different traits. Lately, I'm been using M86 because it's cheaper than M105. I've had a lot of luck with both of them, but it really boils down to your preference.

M86 was designed for new paints. However, there are many of us that use it on old paint without any issues. M105 works on both old and fresh paint.

Pads are another preference. I really like the So1o pads, but lately, others have used the new W5000 pads.

Hey,

Just to chime in for clarification...

In order of aggressiveness of the wool pads mentioned:

Solo Heavy Cut Wool - Most aggressive

W-4000 Wool Pad - Medium to Moderate aggressive

Solo Light Cut Wool - Light aggressive

Both the M86 and the M105 are very different products. As Chris mentions, M86 is indeed designed for fresh paint. So while it may work well on certain cured paints, that is not how it is recommended. Moreover, M86 can be used with various pads within the Solo line-up in order to vary its aggressiveness.

M105 is designed to be used with a wool pad. It was designed with the W-5000 Double Sided Wool Pad (my personal favorite) but can also be used with the Solo Wool and the W-4000 Wool pads as well.

Now as Mike said, how Solo will react to using the W-5000 pad instead of the designed for the product Solo pads, I do not know, but I will have to test that combo.

So, if I were detailing wet sanded fresh paint, I would use the M86 and and the Solo Wool Pads. If the paint is cured or is unusually hard in that the wet sanding marks are not coming out easily, I would switch to the M105/W-5000 combo.

Also since i dun have any wool nor agreesive pad (e.g 7006). SO i just tot of getting either one of this product and use it with W8006 ??

Is that possible ??

Reason i dun wanna get a wool pad is i won't be doing compound so often...maybe only once a year.

M86 is for use in a body shop situation on fresh paint, so if you're mostly working on factory paint and/or cured paint, (not fresh paint recently sprayed at a body shop), then stick with M105

M105 is also a compound for use in body shops on fresh paint but can also be used on cured or OEM paint, (OEM = factory sprayed paint).

As for pads, you should get a wool pad for serious defect removal when using M105.
