  • Next level cleaner/Polish after #80 SG

I used # 80 Speed Glaze with a DA on a black Escalade. Results were OK after two trys but some scratches persisted. They are not deep and cannot be felt with finger nail but show under light. It polished up great otherwise and after 12 hours I decided to wax with NXT anyway. Next time should I use a stronger cleaner? Which one? I did exactly like Mike did in the video. Everything worked except for leaving some scratches. Please advise. I love the DA and the general result. Even a novice can look good!
    Thanks for any feedback.

You want to look at #83 DACP.

Give #83 a try, compare your results.

After cleaning you're car's paint, one of the after effects is that after you remove all the light or shallow defects, the deeper defects that remain will now show up like a sore thumb and sometimes drive you crazy!

        We call these, RIDS

        Random, Isolated Deeper Scratches

You can try using #83 as already mentioned as it is more aggressive than M80 Speed Glaze, also #2 Fine Cut Cleaner, you might be able to find this at some of your local auto parts stores as #2 has pretty good distribution.

Sometimes it's more effective and faster to remove the RIDS by hand as you can apply more pressure to 2-3 of your fingers applying either some ScratchX or some M105 than you can apply using a DA polisher because all your pressure is distributed over the entire surface of the pad.

If you push to hard when working by hand you can instill toweling marks, but then these can be remove by your DA polisher.

Another option would be to sand them out and then remove your sanding marks using a rotary buffer.

Another option would be to learn to live with them if the car is a daily driver.

I don't think Meguiar's would still be in business if too many people chose that option.

We're car crazy, that option doesn't exist.

We have a pretty wide spectrum of customers of which some don't have the skill level and experience to completely remove all scratches usually because they are too deep or the paint is to hard to work on.

If a car is a daily driver, it's going to get swirls and scratches in the future, so leaning to live with the deeper defects is a reality. Also, removing some deeper defects means making your clear coat thinner that what might be acceptable, so yes, in some cases it's better to learn to live with some defects than it is to completely remove them.

              hey nguiles,

I am in the same boat as you.. I worked on my car from 12pm - 11pm today.. boy was it fun! lol as mentioned in my other threads, ive tried the following.. dc1.. didn't take out all the swirls/scratches.. then i used scratch x by hand.. did okay but still not what i wanted.. then i tried scratch x by DA and still had scratches!! it drove me crazy so i went out and asked everyone if i should get #83.. everyone suggested #80 so i went out yesterday and picked up a bottle.

Anywhoo, i did #80 on my whole car today, all the swirls were gone, just left with long straight scratches which drove me crazy! it was getting late, 9pm and i was still removing scratches.. so i just went ahead and applied NXT wax.. 1 coat.. and then here i am now lol...

Since my TL is a daily driver, i guess ill just learn to live with it since its bound to get more and more scratches in the near future =[

I think Mike makes a good point here. I love to have a perfect car but it's not possible without spending a lot more time and money than I do. Money and time I won't get back when trading it in anyway. As long as it's clean inside and out, looks and feels it's protected and shiny, I am happy.
