  • Quick Car Rinse

I usually apply a nice layer of the UQD after a good car wash. With that said, lets say a week or 2 passes by and my car is starting to look a little dirty. Is it okay for me to just hose down the car with a garden hose and then drive on the freeway for a while to dry the car out? I'm talking about a quick rinse w/o even touching the car and w/o using soap. I've read that UQD beads water and prevents water spots from forming. Another Q, would giving the car a quick rinse with a garden hose strip the UQD off?

It doesn't seem like I'll do any harm to the paint but I just wanted to run it by you guys to get your opinion (I'm new to the detailing scene )

Why wouldn't you wash the car? I always find that once one has the hose out, it only takes a few minutes to wash the car if you hustle, especially if it's not really dirty.

UQD will not prevent water spots. No, water won't strip UQD off. If water took UQD off, then it most definitely wouldn't keep water spots from forming (which it doesn't anyways).

My opinion- either use a duster or wash it.

I tried something similar to that some time back, even made a post about it. Bottom line: To be filed under, "Good idea, just doesn't work."

While you are driving a wet car on the freeway, the road dust bonds to the paint surface and makes a dried on, set in, road film. When it does that, it is no longer a job for QD sprays. Time to wash.

I tried another idea just a bit different a few days ago.............never mind, that too did not work out.

I agree with pcmark, the best thing is to just let it be dusty until you have the opportunity to do at the least a "hustle-it fast wash". I know that is easier said than done, I had to just leave it be, and drive a dirty car for almost a week this month.

Good input guys. I tend to wash my cars every 3-4 weeks, but I wanted to find a way to give my car a quick rinse in between my actual full car wash w/ soap. I guess I'll just let it get dirty too until I make time to give it a good car wash.

I'm glad that you pointed out the "driving a wet car on freeway...." is just as bad as not rinsing it because I completely overlooked that.

The quickest rinse I have found is in a good rain.... Just wash it in a good rain, hose it off, and let the rain rinse the hose water off.

i use this method most of the time as we are under water restrictions at the moment. i will rinse it at the local car wash with a pressure washer, then 'blow dry' on the way home, and clean with UQD or speed detailer. seems to work very well for me, the only problem is if you leave it too long or do not get all the water blown off, hard water spots will form (usually on the bootlid and rear end where the air doesnt reach) and these can be a bugger to remove.

UQD does make water bead up very nicely, but it does not prevent water spots from forming on the paint, (mineral deposits), not does it prevent water with corrosive substances from etching into the paint.

Here's a thread on the two kinds of water spots and how to remove them.
