  • Oxidation Process

I am going to have to (dont want to but i guess it is good practice) detail my old 1989 Volvo 240DL Station Wagon. It is a dark maroon color and is oxidizing pretty badly in my opinion. The front end had been wrecked before it was giving to me and has new paint so you can see the difference between the two and it just makes it look crappy.

What process would yall suggest to eliminate or greatly reduce the oxidation?

    1) Wash with NXT Wash
    2) Clay Bar
    3) DC#1 Paint Cleaner?
    4) ColorX?
    5) NXT Wax

Does that sound right? What am i missing or what should I substitute?

I will take pictures of the car tomorrow so yall can see what I am working with. I have to go finish the Prelude process anyways and will post the results of that one. Hopefully the Volvo will turn into an Extreme Makeover =P

Thanks for any input that is put forth

My goal is to get it to look like the right side of the pic as much as possible.

      Here's what I do...
      NXT wash
      Clay
--paint will now look all streaky as the clay will inconsistantly remove some oxidation--
      DACP
--usually this will take care of most of it, if not, you may have to use #84...--

well hopefully UPS will show up fairly early thursday because I leave Friday back to College Station and I need to have the Volvo prepped to be sold. The order consists of the pads i needed for the PC we bought. I am going to just try my own combo of products and see the result. Havent gotten any DACP yet because the cars that end up in my driveway (mom, dad, mine, neighbors) aren't in need of it. I will post the results once I have them. Suppose I should do the interior tomorrow.

          What products did you order?

How involved do you want to get?

If I were to work on the Volvo I would do the following:
          1. Wash
          2. Try DACP with cutting pad
2a. If DACP does not work move to light to medium cut compound. Try with a cutting pad and polishing pad and see which works.
2b. If using a compound follow with DACP and polishing pad.
          3. Wash
          4. Clay
          5. Wash or QD
          6. Glaze with #7 or #81
6a. Polish with #9 or #82 if surface needs more oxidation or defect correction
          7. Wax or Sealant
          8. Clean and Dress tires, and exterior trim

          Remember try the least aggressive.
