Wax haze on a white car?

Just out of curiosity, how do you guys tell when a wax has hazed over on a white car? I can definitely see it on my dark grey Mustang, my mom's red Corolla, our dark green Jaguar, etc...I'm going to be undertaking a wax/polish on my gf's white Corolla, and I've never done a white car before.

What do you guys do to tell when the wax has set up? Just time it and wait 15-20 min, or do you use a xenon light or something similar? Any suggestions you can give would be GREATLY appreciated.

Just wait 15-20 minutes and give it the The Swipe Test. Chances are it'll be good to go. If not, wait a few minutes and try again.

With white you usually have to inspect at a bit of an angle to see if it swipes clear.

Just just have look carefully, sometimes getting low at an angle, and just as important, you as the person that applied the wax and is now removing the wax just stay focused on using good technique when wiping each panel down. Focus on the task at hand, remember where you've wiped as you work around the car and remove the wax.

Not much else you can do...

Ok...that's pretty much what I thought. I thought maybe there'd be some other little trick that would help out, but it sounds like just using good technique and different angles may be what I need to focus on.

You'll still be able to see it... it's not as noticeable as on a dark car but you'll see the haze where the wax is.

The swipe test has always been good to me. Does not matter what color just incorporate the swipe test into your routine and you will be ready to remove the wax.

without getting too much off topic here, that sounds like fun! Unfortunately, that's also my birthday, and the gf wanted to go out to lunch/dinner with me that day, so I dunno. Although, it WOULD be kind of fun to take the Jag out to Coronado where she wants to go to dinner!

back on topic...I'll see if I can tell with the swipe test...Another part of my problem is using NXT - it doesn't haze up like Carnauba wax does (my one and only "gripe" about NXT, if you want to call it that), so I can't really see it as easily...I'll just have to work slowly at it.

Yeah yeah yeah...Don't think I haven't thought of that!!! Personally, I'd rather just trade it and get her a new car, since it's got some pretty bad rock chips in the hood and a spot where it was touched up by the PO with what looks like a can of white spray paint. But, being what it is, I'll work with trying to see the haze...As it is, I may start dealing with more white cars in the future, as it looks like I might start a detailing business on the side (after my mom's Corolla came out so good, her coworkers are requesting me to do their cars!)

Are you using NXT or NXT 2.0? Are you working by hand or do you have a g-100/g-110? I am asking these questions because you may be appling the NXT to thick if it is not hazing over. If you apply really thin coats of wax they will haze and be really easy to remove. I had an aspen white wrx impreza and when I used NXT on it I used my g-100 to apply it really thin. I then used the combination of multiple swire tests and many different angles/lines of sight to make sure that I waxed everything, wax was dry/swipe test, and to make sure I did not miss any wax residue while removing the wax. Remember the thinner the better and apply two coats for even coverage.

I've been using 2.0 recently, but I finally finished up with my last bottle of NXT 1.0. That was harder to see where I was missing spots, and I applied it thinly on a silver BMW. Not impossible to see, just difficult. As for applying the NXT 2.0, I'm going to be applying it with my PC 7424, and I'll be applying it very thinly throughout with a 9006 (I think; it's the tan Meg's polishing pad). Wish me luck!

Need to make a wax with a pink color that fades as it dries, they have that in some paints....so you know you covered and dry as well
