Can you clearcoat over powdercoat?

I have some aluminum steps on my truck that are black powdercoat and they are new I just had them replaced because the old ones peeled. I wondered if I could clearcoat them for a few reasons. 1. They would be shiner 2. I could work on them with polish and wax to make them look nice. Any info is greatly appreciated. I have not contacted a body shop as of yet.

Powdercoating is a more durable finish than paint IIRC. You should be able to wax them as they are.
