  • Why does UQD Streak?

I live in an apartment, so when i do need to give the car a quick detail before i head up home, i UDQ the car.

I know it's stated there on the lable not to use it on hot paint, but even on a hot day ( i live in asia) it never seems cool enough for it not to streak.

So why does it streak? Isn't it mostly H2O in UQD?

I doubt it is mostly water, but most of the time it seems to be the towel used.

I have found virtually all of my streaking problems are directly related to the towels I use.

        I use MF towels.

        What are you using?

Is the care well maintained, waxed, etc otherwise?

If not, or if it has been a long time, streaking can be a sign that a detail is needed.

            Daniel,

I use two ficro fiber towels one to do the first wipe down and a second DRY towel to do the second wipe down. When the second towel gets slightly damp I get a new DRY towel and use the damp one for the first wipe down. Doing this I get not streaking.

As you stated, it's never best to use any product on hot paint in direct sunlight, if that's you're only option, then about the only tip that might help is to shrink the size of your work area down.

It would probably be better to try to borrow some shade off a building it at all possible.

                Really good points.

It's really easy for someone to use a product and not get the results they're thinking they'll get but sometimes it's not the fault of the product, it's the wrong product for the job.

Mist & Wipe products like Quik Detailer and Ultimate Quik Detailer are for use AND work best on a finish in excellent condition and that has been maintained. It's a product for removing light dust, finger prints and smudges in-between a normal wash job and a normal application of wax.

                  Hi,
Yes, i use the exact same method as you.

And i only work on these areas each time:
                  1) Bonnet
                  2) 1 side then the other side
                  3) Rear

I drive a Mini so it's all relatively small areas.

                    Hi,
Yes, the car is well maintained. A wax every month or so. Polish every few months and the entire 3 step every 6 months.

                      Re: Why does UQD Streak?

I've actually switched to high quality terry towels and I couldn't be happier. They remove polish, wax, and quick detailers so much easier than MF's. I do use MF towels for windows and interior cleaning though.

I haven't seen a bit of marring from the terrys either.

Must just be a temperature issue then as it's pretty darn hard to make a mistake with UQD, it's pretty "Bubba-Proof" right out of the bottle.

What happens when you use normal Quik Detailer?

                            Re: Why does UQD Streak?

I am still betting on the fact that it is the towels.

The problem with microfiber is that while they do work fantastically well for a while, they tend to get loaded up with product and develop a hydrophobic ability. To test the condition of your towels, simply lay them flat, take a bottle of water, and slowly poor water over them. If it looks like it is beading on top of the towel, then they are loaded up, and need to either be tossed, or rejuvenated. FYI: I have done everything from letting them soak in degreaser to boiling them, and have never been able to rejuvenate them, so every 4-6 months or so when they get loaded up, I just buy new towels for the $40 it costs.

I never have streaking problems now. I have been thinking about buying some terry towels though and seeing how they respond to being loaded up with product like microfiber. If they don't experience the same thing, I think I may just have to resort to going back to the old terry towel ways simply for the lower price and just keep a few Ultimate Wipes for dry/finish buffing.

Old school meguiars! I like using terry towels over MF's too but some say they swirls the finish. Mf's tend to stick to the paint even if its just been detailed while terrys glide right over the paint. Thats just a personal thing though.

Ive only had a QD streak if I was using the wrong towel, the surface wasnt waxed, or I wasnt working a small enough area.
