  • Caring for flat black paint..on fiberglass

I have a customer that has 7, yes 7 Hemi cars and has asked me to start detailing them for him. One is this car:

    1968 Dart. 426 Hemi

Problem is it has a flat black fiberglass hood. I'll post a couple more picks from the car show later but what I need to know is what is suggested to take care of that finish.
In it's current condition (new) it looks like someone has used a spray on dresssing or somekind of wax. The owner is not sure what was used as he does not detail them himself. However is very confident the finish is not correct. I agree.
Any info would be great. I just met him at a local show and would love to solve this problem for him.
    Thanks in advance,

Thanks Mike for the links. Would you recommend I do anything besides washing the hood first before applying the Gold Class Trim Detailer? The hood is in perfect condition other than the glossy look.

Just wash and dry as normal, the first... do a test spot, that is just apply a little product to a small area, work it gently like lotion to skin, then after a few seconds gently wipe the area with a clean, soft dry microfiber.

That is about the most you can do for this kind of surface, there's really not much else you do to it with any kind of product.

The most important thing you can do is to be careful with it when washing and drying and anytime you're working on the paint around it.

Flat black accents look cool, but you and/or the owner need to be aware that these kinds of surfaces/finishes can't really be worked on, so you don't want to do any damage to them in the first place.

Let us know how your test spot goes...

I've always wondered, do these matte finishes have clear coat?
