    Hi Guys,

I need to remove minor scratch/swirl marks from the hood of my 07 Honda Fit. I assume I'll use 'Scratch X'. Questions??????

The body shop used a non-silicone glaze when buffing.

Will washing (Meguiar's gold soap) then Claying, be sufficient prep. to begin using Scratch X???????

In the demo thread regarding Scratch X, several applications of Scratch X was used. Does this require same day session, or can you just continue next week-end???

Regarding elbow grease & Scratch X, can this be un-even force or effort, or should i strive for equal effort??????

I understand that when using Scratch X a combination of circular application & straight motion is OK, correct?????

I understand Scratch X does not need to dry before removal????

How do you know when to wipe it off & start the next application????

I plan to follow up using DeepCrystal Polish, when ScratchX phase is complete, then Techwax

Any hints/insights, or anything i missed, please comment

    Thanks
    Rico

Yes, give the Honda a good wash with the two bucket method (you don't want to install more scratches / swirls in the finish) and they clay as you plan.

Yes you can, but remember something, if you clay and don't wax you'll leave the finish exposed to contaminants so if you plan to do a good work and you know you'll get tired what you can to is detail a section by section, for example, wash the entire vehicle and clay on section (hood for example) then use your scratchx in the hood, remove those scratches and swirls and then polish and wax, then you can move to another section for example or leave it for another day. I know this way you'll last longer but it's a alternative if you are planing not to do the full detail in one day.

Or you can clay the entire vehicle and work the sections you can that day (scratchx, polish, wax) and when waxing just wax the entire vehicle, next day you'll just have to continue but don't have to clay again.

Well see it this way, if you work an area more and others then you'll know that probably you'll have some sections swirls free and some will have swirls. Just be as even as you can because by hand you can't be 100% perfect, that's why with a DA you don't have to worry about this because the presure is even.

You can but I think you should stick with straight back - forward motions because you'll "last" longer, you won't get tried as fast as circular applications because it's less movements. You use circular motions when you want to bring that product that hasn't been worked back to the working section and then continue working

You wipe off ScratchX when you have a clear film, no white residue or like a milky product that is left. The clear film means that the abrasive has broken down thus it will act like a polish.

      Good luck with your detail!
      Hope this helps

          Hi Guy's,

From 'Tips & Tricks Using ScratchX'

Here is how to remove a bird dropping etching or an isolated scratch.
          1. Only work a small area at a time - about 6 inch by 6 inch area or smaller
          2. You can apply using a combination of circular motions and straight-line motions
          3. Work the product against the finish until it looks as you have almost run out of product.
          4. Re-apply the product and repeat the above steps 2-3 more times
#3 What does 'against the finish mean'?

You re-apply the product without wiping off? Somewhere I thought I saw wipe off between applications.

          Thanks
          Rick

'Against the finish' refers to working the product (in this case, the ScratchX) against the paint finish of your car. If you're trying to remove a scratch on your hood, you're going to work ScratchX back & forth across your hood to try & get the scratch out.

As for re-applying without wiping off, you can certainly do that; it's not going to harm anything with the ScratchX. Although, you might want to wipe it away so that you can see if you've effectively removed the swirls/scratches, instead of repeating yourself.
