I agree 99.9% with this. My 0.1% disagreement comes from an experience last year where I missed a spot when removing #16 after allowing it to haze. I discovered the missed spot some 24 hours after applying it (a very thin application, by hand) and it still came off easily.

But put it on a little too thin, and leave it on a little too long, and you'll have one heck of a time removing the marks in the paint caused by the chisel you used to remove the wax. But it sure do shine nice.

As to Dianne's original question about whether or not buy a can of #16 and which is better, #16 or NXT 2.0: I would encourage you to obtain a can of #16 if you can as it's great stuff and a single can will last you a very long time. Is it better than NXT 2.0 though? That's a personal choice as they are very different animals not only in how they apply and remove, but in their makeup and final appearance. Having choices is always a good thing. Having those choices sitting on your very own shelf is even better.

Reason? I can get a can or two of this stuff. #16 or NXT2...which is better?

        Thanks, Dianne
        Hi Dianne,

Where you read M16 was the best wax Meguiar's made is just an opinion. The only opinion that really matters is yours. I used to use M16 on every car I detailed for money and that was a lot of cars for a lot of years, so yes it is a good wax for what it was and that's an older formula hard paste wax. People like it because it beads water really well and it appears to last a long time according to the water beading. What people don't understand is that water beading doesn't mean actual paint protection, it means surface tension.

Our chemists have stated that the protection ingredients used in the NXT Tech Wax 2.0 makes NXT our best protecting product, note best protecting doesn't mean longest lasting, it means the ingredients in the product will protect the paint from attack and deterioration.

        Just so were clear.

M16 will add gloss to paint just like any quality wax, but waxes like our NXT, Gold Class and M26 will create a more clear finish which for some people is more important as they are looking to make their paint look its absolute best.

For the price of a can of M16 you can certainly give it a try and compare it to whatever else you own and use or spend a few more dollars and purchase another wax you're interested in and compare them side by side on the same panel.

By doing this you can come to your own opinion as to which wax is really the best. Truth is all Meguiar's current waxes will make your paint look good and protect it, what's more important is the surface prep steps you do to get your car's paint ready for the application of wax.

        Hope this helps...

          Re: Mequiar's #16

Thanks Mike. I read it here in one of the old posts that #16 was the best wax made. It was not compared to anything else, just that it was the best but discontinued. I am not really into this as much as you fellows, so buying a bunch of waxes and comparing them, is not really for me. As it is my girlfriends think I spend way to much time on my car. Just a nice shine. Sorry to ask another question....but I used the 3 step Mequiars (Cleaner, Polish, and wax) and the shine is great. The next time, if I do the cleaner, and polish, which would be the best 3rd step...#16 or NXT2? My interest is in shine and protection, so I am guessing one is better than the other for either shine or protection. I would be using an orbital buffer..don't want to look like one of those women wrestlers. LOL I know it is all in the eyes of the owner, but just a couple of comments would help. Thanks, Diane

If your not into the comparing and all that stuff and this is just your daily driver (which I'm guessing looks way better than all your girlfriends cars) then I would suggest you go with the NXT 2.0, it's easy to get, easy to work with and is really great wax. You can't go wrong by using the Deep Crystal System Cleaner and Polish followed by NXT 2.0.

I agree. NXT 2.0 is pretty awesome stuff actually. Make your friends think you're really nuts though and use Ultimate Quik Detailer on a regular basis between waxing and then point out to them how water just falls off the car when it rains.

Thanks all. Really appreciate the comments and advice. NXT2 it is then. And yes, TXShine, my car does look so much better than any of my girlfriends cars. I can't believe some people spend big bucks on their car, and treat it like a piece of junk. Even though it is hard work, it is worth taking care of my car. (Gotta find a guy who will do this for me, its bad for the hands and nails.) lol Thanks all, Dianne

I also find it amazing that people spend as much money as they do on a vehicle then dont take care of it. Just doesnt make sense to me!

I find it amazing how my 15 year old girl's original black paint is in better condition than 99% of newer BMWs that come through our shop that are less than 2-3 years old!

It is amazing isn't it.......... I see cars and trucks (in the $30,000+ range) all the time that are less than a year old that already come close to being just a beater. What is wrong with these people???????

                          Hey Dianne,

Be sure to clay your car while your friends are watching. That’ll really confuse the heck out of ‘em.

Just a note on applying #16 too thick. The first time I applied it I thought I was going to have to chisel it off but found that a liberal application of #7 over the set #16 softens it up pretty good.

When a person orders a product from another country it is THEIR responsibility to check if the product violates any laws in their country. When we receive an order for a #16 we do fill out the customs paperwork properly. The buyer is at risk of losing the product and facing fines. The USA does not send out a fax to every country everytime they decide to control a substance.

While cleaning out a friends garage I found a old can of #16. I opened it up and it looked ok, was still blue , and wasent all dried up. Today I used it on my sons silver Honda. It seemed to spred ok , and the car did shine when I got done. How good do you think it is after all thers years?
