  • Sponges and Mitts

So I tend to like chenille sponges, but those seem to be fading away, at least from Meguiars.

Has anyone done anything like puting a basic sponge, or grout sponge, etc into a mitt and sewing it closed? Or cutting the cuff off and then sewing?

Seems like a straightforward idea, but dont want to miss anything that might mess me up.

I was thinking of trying it with the MF Mitt.

I have thought of this too.

I don't really like using mitts although I believe lambswool is great for not damaging your paint, so I thought about stuffing my lambswool mitt (which I've only ever used twice) with a sponge and sewing it shut.

Perhaps you should give it a go and report the results!

We can go out for a drive without her makeup and she looks fine. If I want to take the black one out, it is three or four hours in the "bathroom" to get ready.

I'm going to have to if no one else has... My 2 chenille ones are getting a bit worn out.

Only problem with a sheepskin mitt is that it will start to rot quite fast since it will always be wet inside. I always hang them to dry with the cuff open.

Great idea! I love the chenille sponges too but mine are looking pretty sad. I bought a sheepskin mitt but haven't tried it out yet. I also bought a few grout sponges and don't really care for those. I've been checking Big Lots hoping I would come across a stash of chenille ones but no luck yet.

I think you just volunteered to be the official tester.

              Hi:

Same here, always used a wash pad.

I have been planning on making a two part wash pad.

If I can find the time I am going to have some heavy cotton nap towels cut and sewn into a pocket with one end open.

Put a sponge inside and use it to wash your car.

You can then wash the cotton pocket in the washing machine if you need to or just separate the sponge and cotton pocket to let them air dry.

I would have a number of cotton pockets made so that I could switch pockets while washing the car if it gets too dirty.

When either item wears out just replace as required.

              Regards.

                Re: Sponges and Mitts

Not a bad idea since a washing machine would break down the sponge, as long as the sponge didnt keep falling out of the pocket....

The sponge coming out is one problem with this design. I plan on making the pocket fairly deep, hopefully this with limit to some degree this problem.

Not a perfect solution, but with the wash pad disappearing what do you use ??

                    Re: Sponges and Mitts

Pretty sweet idea. I have a brand new chenille mitt but I find that it sheds like crazy. My hands are usually covered in lint after using it. I also have a decently new chenille mitt that I really liked. It also shed kinda bad but got better after a few uses.

                      Hi:

Just remembered that Griot's Garage has a wash pad.

If you like using a wash pad this maybe the best available now.

Not cotton but does look pretty good.

                      Hope that helps.

Didnt think of those either. I was actualy looking at the wheel well brush there already.

Anyone tried those pads yet, or seen how soft they are?
