  • How bad is it.....

Okay so I finally got a chance to read up on how to post pictures and I wanted to take the chance to post of few pictures of the problem im having. (after a preview i guess i still need to learn how to post pics, sorry guys but heres the link)

I have some hard water marks and swirls all over the car. I just bought a house so buying a rotary is a few months off for me. Is there anyway to really put a dent in the way these show by hand. I know that scratchX can be applied by hand but i dont seem to have very good luck with this. I have watched mike videos on youtube to ensure i was doing it properly.

As always, thanks for looking and TIA for any suggestions

[edit: Your pictures were not showing-up so I gave you a helping hand. Tim]

    Morning,

It is hard to tell from the pictures what type of etching you have. You may have water marks that were created by acid rain. If so, they may be deep and until a rotary is used by someone with experience in using it (especially on black paint), you will have to settle for making look the best it can.

Try the ScratchX again, using a piece of 100% cotton toweling. You need to work a small area, like 10"x10" and really work it in with some passion. This make take a few minutes for that small section. Work the product until is a light residue, then take a quality MF and wipe it off. Then re-inspect. I would then follow with the ScratchX and a foam applicator to remove any marring from the previous step. You may have to do each spot a couple of times. If that does not do it, then machine buffing with a G-110 DA or even a rotary may be required.

Give that a try and report back!

Thanks for the help with the pics tim!!! I need to practice the art of posting them.

I will give the scratch X a try with the cotton rag. I didn't think i could do it this way. I will try and get some better picture today and add them.

those dont really look like water spots to me.... looks more like many many cracks small specs

usually water spots i see look like little circles... thats y they are called spots....

i hope those specs are just dust/dirt bc they make your picture looks like those posted by people who have early signs of clear coat failure.....

Yeah, those specs are the pollen that seems to be attracted to the cars here in Georgia.

I really hope that clear coat failure is not in my future. If so i will have to find someone to fix it for me.
