My car gets dusty sitting under the carport. I've got two of those California Dusters. Would using one just to dust off my car scratch the car? Opinions?????

While the California Duster isn't a product manufactured by Meguiar's, I believe the general consensus is that it's an 'ok' product.
What I would recommend would be a slightly different approach though...
Meguiar's manufactures a variety of 'quick detail' types of sprays that are specifically made for the type of situation that you've described.
To use these products, you simply mist the spray onto the vehicle and go back over it with a nice 100% high-pile cotton or Microfiber towel and remove the dust. The spray will provide a degree of lubrication such that you are much less likely to cause swirls and spider marks across your finish.
Yes, this process will take a little while longer but, in the long run, I think it'd be worth it over simply dragging something that's dry across a dusty finish to remove the dust.
It should also be said that quick detailing products shouldn't be utilized when the car is very dusty/dirty. In those instances, the only safe way to remove the surface contamination is to simply wash your vehicle with a high-suds type of shampoo.
Here are some links to Meguiar's Quick Detailing products:

Best of luck with your decisions and please let us know if you have any additional questions.

I would agree with Rockpick you almost need somthing to lubricate the surface... I have thought about getting a california duster but I still think it would introduce some fine scratches. I do use it on the interior and it works great there.Brandon

The car duster is fine if it's just for a light dusting. I would not recommend it for much more than that. Durring the extremely hot summers I work extra hard to keep my car as clean as possible. When it gets parked for any period of time I put my custom fitted car cover on it to keep the interior temps down (for the batteries sake). Before I put it on I always run the duster over it so that I don't trap any dust inbetween the car and the cover. Seems to work pretty well, but if it's anything more than a light dust I use the detailer.Later,
Ricky
