  • Supreme Shine Microfibre towel Maintenance

In a previous post I made you guys gave me some suggestions how I should clean my MF towels (hand wash in warm water with liquid detergent and air dry). I had already screwed up 5 of them, so I'm going to by some new ones tommorw to help with my claying and polishing this weekend. Just wanted some confirmation if doing the following is adequate.
    1. I wash them after every use, for some of them that equates to a daily wash as I QD with Last Touch every day.
    2. I pour the detergent on and then soak in warm water overnight, For the really dirty spots I pour the detergent directly on them. I wash them in the morning and hang them out to dry for the day.
    3. Is there a problem with using any towel for all my products (MEGs only) or should I use a different towel for each product? I only use them for product removal/buffing not application, I use applicator pads for product application (except Last Touch and QD, which I do use MFs to apply).
    Thanks again

    I don't soak mine.

I just fill washing machine w/ warm water, add soap and a squirt of simple green and then line dry. That's it. I do wash MF towels by themselves tho.

    Good luck.

The wife would probably damage me if I used the washing machine to clean my MF towels, thats why I have to soak and hand wash them.

I just throw them in the washing machine (it ain't gonna hurt the machine unless you've got them full of grease or solvent) and use Woolite in cold or sometimes warm water and vinegar in the rinse cycle. With our new(er) front load machine, I actually have it do an extra rinse. Throw them in the dryer on the delicate cycle and they're still like new (well, maybe a little faded) after two years. I keep buying more though....seems you can never have enough.

I agree with Mort. I use the wash machine gentle cycle. I have done it this way for about 18 months. To dry I put them in the dryer on Medium heat and check periodicaly so I do not over dry them.

Me, too -- I just toss them in the wash.

              Ouch!

I also use the washer cold/cold w/ normal detergent, then dry on the permanent press cycle. After 6 months, no problems (though the ones I bought at CostCo are not nearly as soft/nice as the MEGs ones). I also agree to wash/dry MF by itself. I also wash the MEGs seperately from the CostCo, which are my 'junk' MF towels for wheels and non-surface paint use.

I have been wondering this too since I just got my first SS and I don't want to mess it up because it looks so nice.

I run mine with hot water on the heavy duty (fast) cycle, some APC, Woolite and a squirt of dish soap, extra rinse with vinegar, and dry on high. None of mine have fallen apart after about 3 years or so.

What about storage? Which is better, squashed in an air tight zippock bag or out in the open? I squash the air out of them and my applicators ( foam and even coat ) and store them in individual bags.

We go through a lot of microfibers here at Meguiar's and for the most part we,

Wash with hot water on the heavy duty cycle with Tide detergent laundry soap - Liquid for our Washing Machine system.

                              Dry on the normal setting.

Fold the microfiber polishing cloths and place them in a cupboard for use again.

We don't make it any more complicated than this and we work on all kinds of car's and we get great results.

If you use a microfiber polishing cloth on something that stains it, sometimes the stain will not wash completely out but the microfiber is still okay to use as long as the fibers are soft and gentle feeling to you.

You can add more processes to clean and maintain your microfibers like soaking first, washing by hand first, etc. and that's up to you, but in the big pictures, wash them using a quality laundry detergent, dry them in the dry without any softener and then fold them and store them in a clean place until needed.
