When new my Cali duster leaved streaks (directions said it would). I've been using the same one for over 10 years on four different black cars.

The car dusters are coated with paraffin. You're supposed to wrap it in newspaper for 24 hours when new to soak out the extra paraffin.
When you use the duster, use NO pressure. None. The idea is that the dust on your car gets stuck to the paraffin on the duster and removed from the surface of the car. That's why I shake it before and after. If there's any kind of grit on the car, do not use the duster. It's only for dust.

I used the duster only for when the car was sitting in the garage for a while (on a clean car).
