  • Extra v. #39 v. APC

Can anyone explain the differences between these three products, other than being from different product lines:

    EXTRA All Surface Cleaner
    #39 Heavy Duty Vinyl Cleaner
    All-Purpose Cleaner/Degreaser

    Thanks!

    haven't used extra.
#39 is strictly for vinyl and plastic, where apc can be used on carpets (does a wonderful job there.) I haven't had a chance to use it on plastic yet as I havn't had the apc too long. In a nut shell #39 is a dedicated cleaner and apc is more versital (hence the name "all porpose " )

It was recommended in another post that I use #39 to clean my trim before using the GC Trim Detailer, as I had problems with blotching, streaking, and greasiness.

This seems quite a bit overboard to buy such a dedicated product for such a small area of the car. Thus my question, so I could figure out if Extra or APC could do the same thing.

that was me who suggested that. I stand by that as I have estabilished results with #39. I'm sure acp would do just as good of a job but I can't honestly say that because I haven't tried it yet.
sorry I could not help more.

          I'll try,

EXTRA All Surface Cleaner is a n All Purpose Cleaner. It can be used to safely clean a wide variety of surfaces that includes vinyl. It is not a dedicated vinyl cleaner. It is part of the Consumer line and marketed and sold into retail stores for consumer use. Extra has been discontinued but you can still find it in some stores as well as some online websites.

#39 Heavy Duty Vinyl Cleaner is a dedicated cleaner for cleaning vinyl. It is also body shop safe. It is a product in the Professional line and thus marketed and sold into the professional side of this industry.

          Meguiar's Detailer Line
In the Detail line, there are a number of cleaners some are all-purpose cleaners some are formulated for extra strength cleaning of grease and grime and thus called de-greasers. You can learn more about Meguiar's new Detailer line by clicking the link below,

Because Meguiar's just introduced a new and revamped Detailer line, the product you would be most interested in is the new All Purpose Cleaner.

Like Extra, it is an all purpose cleaner that can be used on a variety of surfaces. It is replacing to all purpose cleaners in the old Detailer line of which you can still find these products at some PBE stores and through some online websites.

To find a PBE store in your home town, click on the link below,

You can use any of the above to clean plastic trim before applying a protective dressing.

          I hope this has helped...

I haven't ran out of all purpose cleaner plus yet, but I'm assuming it's close enough to all purpose cleaner. Personal recommendation is to get it and a bottle of #39. I find that regular use of a product like 40 has enough cleaner in it to keep a dash in good shape, but once in a while I like to take 39 to it to make sure it's throughly cleaned. And also there are those times when you get a friend who puts a greasy hand print on your dash that it comes in real handy, or when the peon's at the dealership install your new steering column covers, that they previously destroyed, with their greasy hands.
            Later,
            Ricky
