  • Removing Gum from Carpet

So I tried using the search tool and couldn't find one thread on how to remove gum from carpet, or even one thread with the word gum in it (I think something must not have been right) Anyways, I have a customer who has some gum that has been caked on to the carpet of his back seat (the floor) and she wants to know if I will be able to get it off. Does anyone have any suggestions or what do you use when you come accross such a thing.
Thank-you advance for your response and I look forward to finding out the best processes of removing gum from carpet.

Vegetable Oil will dissolve gum and then you can use a carpet cleaner to remove the vegetable oil. Try a little on your fingers and on some of the gum, make sure a little is working a little bit before use a lot.

Not a perfect system but better than gum in the carpet. Haven't tried Goo Gone or Goof Off but those two products should also dissolve gum.

        Carbona Stain Devil #1

I just checked, and it's still available, though apparently not in California for some reason. I think California just likes to ban everything that actually works well.

Anyway, I've used this stuff to remove ground in chewing gum from carpet more than once. It's the fastest, most effective thing I have ever found when it comes to gum. It works well on freshly ground in and melted gum, and also on older gum spots, though it takes more fluid and effort the longer the stuff has been stuck there. I pulled a gum spot out of a floor mat on a friends car with this stuff, and it had been stuck there for years.

Edit: I thought I'd also add that it won't stink up the car!

I've had good luck in freezing it with ice. The colder it gets the more brittle the gum is, so its easier to remove.

ADS has "Sprayway Gum Remover" so you could find some dedicated gum cleaner around
