  • How do you get rid of tar?

What do you use to get rid of it? Does Body Solvent work good?

Last year I had tar on my truck like never before. It was crazy. Not sure if it was all the road construction or the after market wheels that stuck out a bit more than normal. That truck is gone and I have mud flaps on the Jeep so it might not be a problems this year but I want to be ready. I ruined a few wash mitts last year.

I've removed tar with clay and a LOT of effort.

Sometime, I'll try the Body Solvent.

A while back, I used a Stoner tar remover. It removed the tar, but it severely dulled the paint. It took a lot of ScratchX to fix the dullness...

This tar wasn't dried. When I would wipe a wash mitt over it, it would smear all over and stick to the mitt also. Since tar repels water I had a heck of a time with it.

I just might have to break down and order a sample of Body Solvent to try.

I've used G10716 w/ success, but the bugs/tar weren't as extreme as it sounds yours were.

Goo Gone or Goof Off will both work, apply using a wash rag or some terry cloth and work he product until the tar dissolves. Afterwards you should apply some wax to these areas.

Clay will work but it kind of contaminates your clay when a liquid cleaner will dissolve the tar and then you can either wash the cloth you used or pitch it.

            Hi Guys

Spray some WD40 on a tissue and rub gently.

Should remove the tar right away.

            Have a great weekend.

WD-40 on an old rag will get it right off.

Body Solvent seems to work for me on fresh tar.

I used GC Bug and Tar Remover on a big chunk of tar that had been on my car for over a year. I sprayed it on, let it sit for about 15 seconds, and it wiped right off.

Thanks for the ideas. I sure hope it's not as bad this year, but if it is I now have a plan of attack.

Just to chime in. I have had great success using the GC bug and tar remover.I also have used the body solvent with good results. So either way you can't go wrong.
