  • Do I use ScratchX before or after claying?

I'm going to clay, ScratchX, polish, and wax my ride, but I'm wondering if claying or ScratchX should come first in the sequence? Thanks.

        Clay first.

You remove the contaminants off the paint before going after the defects in the paint.

In other threads ScratchX has been compared to #82 on the abrasive scale, and not the best when used with a D/A.

So, assuming you have 83, 80, and 82 at your disposal and you have a D/A, is there any need to also have ScratchX?
Maybe if you have a small, isolated blemish to repair ScratchX would be easier than pulling out the D/A and using 80 or 82? Or since you already have the machine & the other products, just use the pro stuff anyway?

While ScratchX and #82 are equal in aggressiveness, they have different purposes.

ScratchX works remarkably well by hand. Unless it was the old version of ScratchX, I haven't seen any complaints about using it with the PC. I've tried it and it works fine. Sometimes, people need a more aggressive product to remove the defect.

Even though I have a PC and rotary, I still own ScratchX. Why? Because it works fast on light scratches and swirls when you just don't have time to pull out the machines.
