    Re: Hand washing??

Pretty basic, make sure you're using clean, soft mitts and drying products, don't want to use anything that's going to 'touch' your car's paint that could also scratch the paint.

Meguiar's recommends starting at the top of the car and working your way down, rinse and wash one section at at time. After you're done washing the car dry off the water to help prevent water spots.

Some people like to wash the wheels and tires first because when you rinse them off you'll tend to get water spray back onto the body panels and if you're going to wash the car after rinsing the wheels and tires it won't matter as much as you're going to be washing the adjacent panels and then drying the car afterwards.

It's all about getting the car clean, without scratching it and then getting it dry so you don't get water spots.

One thing that I notice in that video is, he doesnt let the suds build up at all. I know suds are not not really needed(some say they 'carry' the dirt away) but I really like a soap that produces alot of soap.

Mike says he cannot fill a bucket up with soap already in the bucket so I fill the bucket up 3/4 of the way then add the soap. Give it a shot of water and it will suds up really nice but still give you plenty of water.

Nice video. I do have a question, though. Instead of using the 2 bucket method (2nd bucket to rinse the wash mitt), why not use that hose to just spray/rinse off the mitt with nice clean water each time you clean part of the car? Then put it back in the soap and wash again, etc.

Just seems like if you clean a really dirty car, that rinse bucket could get pretty nasty...

Seems like with a really dirty car you'd want to be sure and float all the crud off in a separate bucket. I am not sure if that is the reason behind the 2 bucket method, but, it seems like a hose would merely get the surface stuff off the mitt.

And I learned all this from reading all the experience floating around this formum. Sometimes reason just doesnt make a lot of sense.

And you can certainly refill your rinse bucket.

The two bucket method is one thing I know that I'll keep using. I think the reason it's better than just hosing off the mitt is pretty simple once you think about it. In my case, I've noticed with a sheepskin mitt that hosing water at it just causes the fibres to lay over, and the water doesn't really reach all of the dirt, and so it isn't rinsed away. Now, when you submerge the mitt in a bucket of water and swirl it around, all of the fibres wave around, and a more thorough release of grit and grime occurs.

For a visual, just think of what your hair does when you swim around under water. It all floats around freely, and ever part of it from root to tip is completely exposed to water.
