  • New to Meguiar's with questions

Hi, kind of new to detailing and would like to know some opinions...

I have been using Griot's products and have decided to switch to Meguiar's.

I recently rec'd a new 2008 Black MBZ ML 350. I have PTec Vinyl seats.

I really hate any product that leaves a white residue in areas you can't get to, so help me out here...

After my research, I have tentatively chosen the following, some as recommended by the "My Garage" question/answer:

NXT car wash (b/c I selected the Nex Gen wax)

    Clay kit

Nex Gen 2.0 (b/c of the dark color and user comments on how well it works on dark colors)

Ultimate Quick Detailer (said to be better for clay use so I don't need two different quick detailers and the cost is not that much different)

Gold Class Bug and Tar remover

Natural Shine Rubber and Vinyl Protectant (only b/c this product looks like it does NOT produce a shine even tho' it says "shine", I like interiors looking like they did out of the factory)

Hot Rims Wheel Cleaner (b/c it sprays on and wipes off, I don't like to have spots on my driveway due to cleaners and it looks like I have painted wheels).

Next Gen All Metal Polish (for the chrome exhausts and door handles)

Gold Class Endurance Tire Care (b/c it says you get a natural shine and the product doesn't drip on your driveway).

Next Gen Glass cleaner (I haven't seen a glass cleaner that really works yet, but I'll try this one. Does anyone know if this is compatible with Aquapel or what you think of it?)

Gold Class Trim Detailer (b/c it says it's for both plastic and rubber trim therefore I only have to get one).

If any of these leave white residues in areas you can't get into (especially the wax) please let me know...

    TIA, Smooth

    Welcome to Meguair's Online!

For most people, the problem with dried wax on trim components is a matter of moving to fast and not being careful enough around these components, so simply slow down a little when you get near them and don't put wax on them in the first place, then you don't have to try to remove the dried wax.

Another option that allows you to work less carefully is to use some painter's tape to cover these components, click the link below and give that thread a read-through.

Everything looks great except for this. While I suppose you could clay using UQD it is not recommended. This product, in my experince and opinion, works best on maintained finishes to keep the vehicle looking good and free of dust.

I would stick with Last Touch/Quik Detailer/NXT Speed Detailer for claying. Those products are a bit more cost efficient and are recommended for the task at hand. The best thing to do is just get the Quick Clay System as it has everything you will need all in one box. Since you are already buying wax, you can use the included Cleaner Wax (a great product BTW) for door jambs, trunk area and painted areas under the hood.

I think that, whatever you decide, you will love Meguiars. Oh.......

You dont need to switch, just get a bottle of regular Megs QD. UQD is a great product to maintain the finish after eash wash.

A good 5 gallon bucket along with a Meguiars Micro Fiber Mitt would be something else I would get. Have you thought about adding a paint cleaner and polish to the list? Other than that, your list of detailing stuff looks awesome.

Ive never gotten NXT on plastic so Im not sure how bad it will stain. Best thing to do is to take the extra time and tape it off or be really careful.

            Thanks, Mike,

Yes, I did add the mitt to the order (which is stored at the moment in case I want to modify it based on the thread). The cleaner et al, I didn't order since the car is new! That will be when I need it (which will be when I need refills, I suppose)...
