  • My Detailing Process???

A friend, who was a pro-detailer in a previous life, recommended the following detailing process for me... #2/#7/#26. He said that's basically all I need. I purchased #7 & #26, but I did not purchase #2 as the directions say it is for a rotary buffer only, and I have an orbital buffer.

So I am also a little confused when it comes to Surface Prep... should I use a cleaner, the clay bar, or both? And in what order?

The car is a 2000 VW, whose paint has been neglected. It isn't in bad shape, I just don't take as good of care of it as I should, and I am going trying to change my evil ways.

Anywhoo, could you help me define a process? Here is what I have so far...

    1. Wash Car - Hi-Tech Wash
    2. Clean Paint - Clay bar?
    3. Wash Car Again - Hi-Tech Wash
    4. Clean Paint - Cleaner? What product?
    5. Polish - #7
    6. Protect/Wax - #26

    Thanks for your help!

    Hey,

    Welcome to Meguiar's Online!!

Meguiar's #2 Fine Cut Cleaner is designed for rotary buffers. It requires the heat and power that only a rotary can provide to break down the abrasives in the product properly.

Your process otherwise looks good. For the cleaning step, I would probably use either #9 Swirl Remover or #83 DACP. For light swirls, use the #9. For more moderate swirls use the #83, followed by #9.

Then use the #7 and top with NXT, MPPP, GC or #26.

Good luck and keep us posted!!

      Thanks Tim!

Ok, just to be clear. No clay bar or clay bar?

      Wash / Clay / Wash / #9 or #83 / #7 / #26
      Or
      Wash / #9 or #83 / #7 / #26

      Thank you!!!

        Hey,

Your first choice is the one I would use:

        Wash, clay, wash + #83 or #9 + #7 + NXT or #26 or #16

Good luck and post some pics when complete!
