I work with a guy that tells me to restore the shine and lustre of my car's paint, what I should do is after I wash it, rinse it down using a bucket of water, and in the water put an ounce of vegetable oil! He tells me this rejuvenates the paint, yada yada yada. You then rinse that of with water only, and she shines like new, he says. He swears up and down by this, and says he got it from a Rolls Royce guy. Personally, I think he's loopy, but I figured I'd bounce this one off the experts. To me, it would seem to leave my car an oily mess, with a film I would have to wash off, no?

Re: ANYONE heard of this???
Hmmm, i question its effectiveness as the oil will just sit on top of the rinse water.
I think if anything, the car may look shinier while rinsing because the oil refracts more light (like when you see those oil polluted puddles on the ground - and can sometimes see a rainbow-type effect.
I am also pretty sure that the oil should cling to the car less than the water, because it has less surface tensionand is more viscous.

If your friends suggestion has your curiosity peaked, it's a cheap enough experiment to try and if it doesn't work it's a easy enough problem to fix, just rewash the car with a quality car wash.
Let us know how your car turns out?
Pictures are a must. What kind of car do you own that you're going to try this on?
