  • Waiting to detail the car

How many of you detail there vehicle in the winter? I sometimes spray it off at a self serve car wash. But I can't wait till the weather breaks so I can give the vehicle's a great detailing job.

I usually wont do a full detail in the middle of winter. I just wash it by hand/ONR it or or go by the car wash and use the rinse/spot free rinse on it. This year I didnt a full detail on it at the end of july, layed down a coat of NXTv1 on October the 10th then layed down a coat of NXT2.0 right before Christmas.

I have spring break coming up and I usually give it another full detail then. I only do a full detail two a year with a few coats of wax between them.

Boy, that one minute limit is a doosie.

Re: Waiting to detail the car

I did a fully vacuum, wash, wax, trims, tyres, alloys and arches. A few weeks ago, the weather in the England has been windy but dry so it was doing alright till a few rainy days (country lanes) and i got my first tattoo the other day and have a slightly sore tummy now and dont want to do any damage to it or me. It needs a wash now the alloys are getting ready for a clean just hope that waxing them is protecting them.

Re: Waiting to detail the car

I actually washed my car IN the rain this past weekend. There was so much funk on the lower panels I just couldn't take it for another whole week (plus the forecast was for sunshine this week). I'm sure the neighbors were wondering a bit (more?) but it made me happy. Pulled it into the garage to dry, and since it was raining, decided to do an interior detail and an exterior mini-detail (clay, wax, dress the rubber and tires, etc). Worked out great.

Even tho I live in Florida it still has its chilly days. I am planning on doing the wifes car on thursday. The high is only going to be in the 50's. She and her family are having a mini family reunion. She wants her baby looking good. Why wasn't the reunion last week. It was in the 80's all week. Ugh. lol.

I just washed my car last week, it was in the teens. My neighbor drove her car by and just looked at me like I was nuts, but that's ok.

I'm planning on doing a mini detail to mine this weekend, supposed to get up to the middle to upper 40's. 50 would be quite alright with me.

I did a mini on Sunday in the rain on the wifes SUV. I had more neighbors come out to make sure I was not losing my mind. HA! The jokes on them, it cleared up later that evening, went out to dinner and the valet parked it right up front. We have the only clean car. It still looks awesome, and everyone elses car looks terrible. (Except Mort's) Whos laughing now?

This year I was able to wash the Charger the day after Christmas. I have been giving it a extensive detail since then (when I have chunks of time). I am chasing every cobweb/swirl I can. My goal is for it to be completely ready once the Winter from Hell is over.... which at this rate in Chicago, will be June.

I'm itching for a few days in the 50s and 60s to do a three-stage detail (ScratchX, Polish, NXT 2.0) -- we're still in the 20s most days. However, we had a day in the 40s a few weeks ago, so I did a thorough wash followed by Eagle One Wax-As-U-Dry, and it seemed to work very well.

I feel your pain. From what the wife and I have heard from watching WGN news. This is the most snow in Chicago since the winter of 78-79. I remember that winter fondly. In February of 79, we were married. What a season of snow that was. Heres hoping for a early spring.

Thanks for the sympathy. I cannot wait to lay down my first strip of rubber this year!
